What are some of the more common sizes of hex bits for drain plugs on cars and trucks? I've run into a few that I didn't have in the past and would like to add them to the tool box. I have a smaller set of hex bits but lacking in the bigger sizes that seem to be on some transmission drains. I know it will depend on what vehicle as to the size but what are some more common sizes?

10mm on Toyota transmissions. 7mm on Mazda3 SkyActiv engines. 14mm on most domestic rear differentials. 5mm on sway bar links and engine covers. 12mm on some wheel lugs. 10mm square for Honda transmissions (3/8" ratchets work too). 4mm long ball hex for VW 2.0L intake manifolds. Common SAE sizes I encounter are 3/16" and 1/4".

There's probably a few more that escaped me. Having a full range of hex sockets (and in different profile) is not a bad idea.

Who cares? Go buy the Harbor Freight drain plug kit for like $20.
It's actually one of the few items I endorse from their.
Mine has lasted 3 years.

10,12,14,17 are common drain plug sizes i encounter. Some 3/8 and 1/2 rare though. Metric are more prevalint. Some of the cheap sets at the autoparts stores will give u what u need on the cheap. Ive had my sets for a long time and i use them often. Never had an issue.
