I am looking to buy a new compressor and have my eye on two different ones. The only difference is about $450.00. The Ingersol-Rand and the Quency basically have the same specs. I want a 2-stage, 7.5 hp, 80 gal single phase set-up. If anyone has any information as to which preforms better I would appreciate your input. Also if you know about noise level that would be good to.

I am at the same point and would be interested to hear opinions.

I'd go for specs. What CFM do they produce and at what pressure? When you work with a compressor, CFM matters. The nametag on the compressor doesn't.

This subject has been discussed here millions of times... use the search feature and do your research.

Quincy makes fine compressors... most IR's you'll see at the box stores are lower performance units which are Ok for home use until you buy a sandblaster or another tool that really needs CFM's.

Check out Eaton and Bel-Aire, too. I have a bel-Aire and it's been a good unit for nine years.

Quincy Hands Down.... unless you dont have 2-3 weeks to wait for one. They both are most likely around 79 to 80 dBa loud enough to hear them but not so much that your teeth rattle.

Look also at the pump RPM. I know the Quincy runs at a pretty low RPM. Some of the IR I've seen at the farm equipment type stores run at 3400 rpm. That's make a difference in it's longevity. Having read a lot (but at this time not owning any of these) I like what I've heard about Quincy, Champion and Eaton in that order. I'm sure IR makes nice product as well.

Quincy. Lower rpm on the compressor 1045 vs 1500, I think. Lower rpm on the electric motor 1750 vs 3450. Baldor electric motor. On site repair. 3 zero gap compression rings. Ball valve drain out in the open. 50,000 hr rated compressor pump life. And best of all made in America instead of India. How do I know? I work at Northern Tool.

Oooooh, that's nice discount. I don't think I could afford to work there. I'd owe them money at the end of the month but at least I'd have a lot of tools. Northern Tools ever have an sizeable sales? 15-20% or so? I like their free shipping because we don't have any NT stores near me.
