What is the purpose of the Raptor Pliers?

I have some Cobras and love them; but even after watching the Raptor video from Knipex, I can't figure out what they do better.

"The Raptor Pliers is the perfect tool for gripping bolts and nuts that have rounded edges from continuous use."

My Cobra Pliers can do the exact same thing. Is this outdated or worth getting?

Raptor pliers = good grip without digging in (won't marr bad).
Alligator/Cobra = phenomenal grip because it digs in (marring is only second to turning the piece).

Rounded edges = still has a few flats left to engage --> raptor
Rounded over = hex is now round, use any means necessary to get it out --> Alligator and Cobra

Guys...I have the Raptors.

THEY KICK *** ON ROUND OBJECTS. Like shafts/pipes/tubes and what not. No marring*, the alligators/cobras will chew it up and the Pliers wrench slips.

Highly recommend. And the more downforce you put on them, the tighter they grip.

(The only thing better than these is those $500 3-clamp non-marr pipe wrench things.)

1 example I remember: I have used them on twisting out the handle of my #3 arbor press that was seized in holder cavity. A strap wrench was worthless, and anything else would've chewed it up.

*they can grip so darn tight, that if the work piece is on the softer side, I have seen the Raptor put a small dent in it. But still nothing compared to a pipe wrench/cobra/alligator.

Thanks for the insight! Looks like I am getting a pair of raptors. I actually needed something to remove an aluminium tubing without damaging it, leather strap wrench was futile.

So Pliers Wrench = Square, Hex, Octagonal
Raptor = Hex, Round
Cobra = All of above

Correct on all accounts. But, like I said, with Aluminum being soft, you will probably put a small dent in it if you have to crank on it. :thumbup:
