Compatible air filters for Harbor Freight compressor pump 67698?

I need a couple of new air filters for my compressor pump (67698). I've ordered them from Harbor Freight, but they're on backorder, so no idea when they'll show up. I just pulled this pump out of storage (and finished the reed/gasket replacement), so I don't have the old filters to use for comparison.

Anyone have any idea on a commonly available filter that may work on these? I'll pull a housing and take up to a local auto parts store as well, to see if we can find anything that fits.

This pump:

Thanks.

I've got the 3hp HF pump. It uses the same filter, just one rather than two. Honestly, I'd just buy a couple new housing/filter assemblies from Amazon or some other aftermarket source. The way the original is made makes it very unlikely to find at a parts house.

The HF filter is a tiny paper element wrapped in foam that's about half an inch thick. The problem is that it stuffs down into a somewhat tight fitting cylinder within the housing such that all the intake air has to be sucked thru one end of the foam wrap rather than the normal situation where you'd expect the entire foam wrap to be exposed to air and acting as a pre-filter before the paper element. To call it restrictive would be an understatement.

These filter/silencers https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00H43L16I/?tag=atomicindus08-20 are rated 12 cfm each, US made, for about $17 each, and have readily available replacement filters for about $3.50 each.

Your original may have a 3/4" pipe thread inlet where this filter has a 1/2" pipe outlet, but bushing the opening is no big deal at about a buck apiece for 3/4 x 1/2 pipe bushings. Solberg also has filters with 3/4 pipe connections, but they're for substantially higher cfm and significantly more expensive if you buy the silencer version.

Glad you asked this question as I'd never looked at the details of mine before. As restrictive as it is, I'm sure a good non-restrictive filter would be worth another 1 cfm or more while allowing the pump to run cooler as well. Gonna order one for mine.

Thanks for the info. I didn't realize the HF filters were a weird setup. I just ordered 2 of these from Amazon, as well as a few extra filters. A bit overkill, but I know they won't be restrictive, and I can swap them to another pump if needed.

I've also got a T29S pump I need to rebuild (swapping the pump in the OP for the T29S while I rebuild), so I'll likely order a 3rd housing and extra filters, that way I have the same filters for all the pumps.

Thanks!

*If* this is the right thread for your compressor I would suggest a housing like this one. Next slip about about 2' of rubber hose onto the inlet tube. It really does make a noise level difference! I did something similar with my belt drive 20 gallon compressor. I was very pleased with the very cheap upgrade.

This guy went a step further and added a car muffler at the other end. My experience is just the rubber hose is a big upgrade. You could try this with the Solberg filters. My CAT compressor has filter housings like that. Since the flow is low they put about 6" of tube into the inlet of the filters. My concern with a higher flow compressor would be choking the air intake. Still, it's very cheap to try and were it not for the CAT compressor I wouldn't believe it actually works.
