Thanks to everyone for the very kind comments you’ve posted about our garage. They indeed are appreciated.
We’ll try to answer the points and questions that have been raised thus far.
The Adjoining Workroom – We don’t have any pictures but may put some together later. It’s pretty boring. At one end are sets of high metal shelving storing all manner of things. Along the long window wall is a continuous row of Craftsman cabinets with abutting smooth work surfaces. Beneath are various configurations with some of the cabinets having drawers and the others doors which open to shelves. At the other end is a large double Craftsman tool chest on wheels, a large radial saw on a rollable dolly, various collapsible workhorses, aluminum step ladders, an assortment of wood for projects, heavy duty floor jack and stands. Other tools in the workroom include floor and bench heavy duty drill presses, double wheel grinder, shop vac, portable halogen work lights, various heavy duty Hitachi drill, saws, etc. Although we ordered enough of the SwissTrax to do the workroom floor, we’ve had second thoughts and currently left it as bare concrete. Our reasoning was we needed at least some small floor space where we could comfortably do things like clean parts or oil based paintbrushes using thinner without being concerned.
Garden Tool Storage Room - Here again, the inside is pretty boring and, frankly, would be difficult to photograph in a way that adequately shows just how much it contains. There are extensive custom built wood shelves and also open areas to store the taller tools. We especially like it because all the normal garage yard / gardening / landscape clutter is well organized and out of sight.
ZAP Garage Door Openers – We just can’t say enough good things about these wonderful door openers. We don’t know the actual equipment cost because it was part of “bundled” pricing we negotiated with a local garage door company to remove all the previous ceiling suspended tracks and chain motor drives and rerouting of the tracks to achieve a “high lift.” The total cost for all the labor and parts per door was approximately $1,000.
Our Location – Our home is in North Carolina about a 45 minute drive from Charlotte.
Sandra’s Involvement in the Project – She was extremely involved and couldn’t possibly have been more supportive. In fact, she thoroughly enjoyed laying a good portion of the SwissTrax flooring. When she wasn’t actively doing or assisting, she had a lawn chair in place watching everything and often making very good suggestions. In fact, it’s Sandra’s idea we now consider adding a second Bend-Pak lift of the same type to gain additional storage space!
