I killed my moms entire front lawn with this stuff when I was a teenager... Round up is the go to product when you need it dead NOW....

I have sprayed my asphalt driveway 3x now the grass just gets greener... I spray around my trees, and after 2 WEEKS its kind of dying.,.... even using the super concentrate 'do not apply directly' stuff...

Round up ***** wtf happened.

The off the shelf stuff, not matter what they call it, is heavily watered down. You need to find someone who is able to get the farm quality stuff.

Go to Tractor Supply and buy this (you-mix version):

+1 on the tractor supply stuff- look at the label on the roundup from home depot- unless you are buying the almost $100/ gal stuff, you are mainly buying water. Glyphospate @ around 3% won't do anything. By the way, the tractor supply stuff is in something like a 2 1/2 gal jug & is 41% . Made to be diluted.

The 41% glyphosate is what you want. Try adding a little surfactant to it. Kill time is typically 11 days, and some tough weeds will require a second treatment. This is pretty well known... Also, quite a few of the weeds are now glyphosate resistant, so a cocktail is often required to fully treat the weeds.

I buy the 41% and use 2 ounces per gallon of water and it works great. I just did a reapplication at the lake today and the stuff we sprayed 10 days ago was dead.

I used the recommended mix of concentrate and after a week only some grasses were browning. Doubled it last time and got a much better and faster result

Many years when I lived on the farm, we used Atrazine to kill weeds. I am not certain of this but I don't think you can buy it anymore. Back then it sure worked well on the weeds.

If your using it on a paved drive way then your using the wrong product. Round-up kills growing plants but does nothing to prevent the reemergence of new plants. You need a soil sterilant that will poison the ground and prevent plant growth. Some here swear by salt, I use Caseron.

What mixture concentration are you mixing to around the trees?

If you want trees dead, core drill them and pour in pure 41% roundup.

Mix this up and it will be dead within 4 hours. Its what I use
1 gallon white vinegar
1 cup salt
1 tablespoon liquid dish soap

I have more questions than answers.
If you're mixing it yourself the PH of your water can reduce the effectiveness of your weed killer. I have high Alkaline water, without a PH adjuster I create super weeds that become resistant to whatever I spray.

You should try rotating the class of weed killer you use as well. Depending on the type of weed you are trying to kill dictates what you can use in your rotation.

Milestone is an example that leaves a residual and will kill certain pre emergent weeds. If you don't know what type of weeds you have, take a picture or pull samples and take with you to the state farm extension office or county weed department and maybe a farm store. Many extension offices and county weed departments will have you send a picture and can go from there. Call and ask what they prefer.

While Glyphosate is cheap you may have better choices. Even 2,4 D Amine is very effective depending on the weeds and won't kill your lawn for example. Btw you can find 2 variants of 2,4D. As others have mentioned use a surfactant, store bought or dish soap.

There are several things that make ru work. Spray after a little rain when plants are not stresses. In the middle of the day. A drier mixture is preferred and a little Ammonium nitrate as a foliar added makes a lot of difference.

I mix the minimum strength -- actually a tad weaker. Kills everything on my stone driveway. don't have to do it often -- few times a season .. so not much is really used. I never just go out and cover the whole driveway.

I have good luck with the vinegar/epsom salt/dawn soap mixture used with a pump sprayer. It costs less then $10 for 2 gallons.

I'll have to get the name of the stuff I bought at the nursery - looked for 2 days like nothing happened, then death. Worked very well.

Fire. I recommend fire.

Fire doesn't kill the roots.

I use KILLZALL concentrate 41-Percent Glyphosate from amazon. I have to order it from Amazon in the US because up here consumers here can no longer buy it in concentrate form. Yep, here we get raped and have to buy it in pre-diluted spray bottles for ten bucks:shocking: I can make 200 bottles with the one gallon concentrate for about 60 bucks. Stuff works awesome but does take a week to 10 days.

Propane weed burners are also pretty entertaining.

Must ID specific pest plant. Some need woody herbicide. Sedge (nut grass) has a specific herbicide. Waxy leaves resist absorption from foliar spray.

Try Pramitol. Solarization with clear plastic is pretty idiot proof. Repeated mechanical attack is low tech.
Completely blocking sunlight eventually kills. Soil compaction kills trees during construction.

Ask my wife to take care of them. She can kill anything.

Harbor Freight has a pretty cheap propane torch attachment. Burning weeds will be very quick, somewhat fun and won't hurt your well water.

Easy to build. Nut, ******, and hose from propane house. I/4 galvanized pipe, gate valve, cap, and some scrap tubing. Drill a tiny hole through the gate for the pilot.

Cheap. Easy. Better than you can buy.

I had trouble with efficacy due to the hardness of my water. As others have noted, ammonium nitrate will bind up the hard water ions and improve its performance, or you can use softened water.

Now I've heard differently - from what I know, the middle of the day is the worst time to spray, because the plants' pores are tightly closed so they hold in their moisture during the mid-day sun. Plus your mixture evaporates very quickly as well.

I spray right at dusk before the dew falls, when the plants' pores are open in order to drink in the dew. That has always worked for me.

Actually, that depends on the level of water stress on the plant.
In times of high water stress stomata close to prevent drying out. In times of low water stress, the stomata will open to cool the plant in the mid day sun.

I mostly spray fungicide, and as I understand it, spraying at night, or when the dew is still on the plants in the morning is best, but that for herbicides, the opposite is true.

Thank you very much for posting this! I know that it does make a difference in effectiveness, especially with hard-to-kill plants.

I've used several different products. The Tractor Supply stuff works well. FYI Roundup Brush Killer is much more effective than Roundup Weed & Grass Killer.

Round up ***** wtf happened.

Yes, they are messing with the formula...

https://usrtk.org/pesticides/whats-in-roundup-internal-epa-docs-show-scramble-for-data/

"RoundUp" contains Glyphoshate and other stuff. If I recall correctly, the Glyphoshate is the chemical that disrupts photosynthesis. The other chemicals help it be nastier and do the initial fast weed kill.

If you use the high concentrations of pure Glyphoshate, the weeds will wilt over several days/weeks and not come back for a long time, but the weeds won't be totally dead in 24 hours like the old RoundUp stuff used to get accomplished. (I assume that's what you are seeing in your newer RoundUp formulation.)

If you check the labels, they should show the concentration of these components.

If you want trees dead, core drill them and pour in pure 41% roundup.

This is what I do here with a "weed" here called Tree of Heaven - they can get to 40ft tall. The ones on my property I cut down in the fall as the sap drains back into the roots then drill the stump (I leave about 3ft) deep and pour straight Roundup concentrate in the holes. They don't come back, they stop spreading and when I've dug up the stump the roots are rotted.
