ive looked at a bunch of compound slide vises and they all seem to have crappy reviews on amazon so Im thinking of getting a compound slide table to mount on my drill press and mount my current vise to that. does anybody have any suggestions on a decent quality one?

I bought a Chicom no name compound slide vise from a local junk shop called Industrial Liquidators for $25 (missing handles) way back in 1983 or so. Still mounted on my old Rockwell drill press. I actually did some very lite milling with this thing (slotting/facing)
Still use it all the time for quick drilling of holes in metal brackets etc. beats trying to hold something with one hand while pulling the handle.

I bought an inexpensive one from industrial supplier. Was utter garbage.
I wouldn't look at Palmgren - they slap their name on a lot of generic import tools now. Actually, they don't even slap their name on the tool. I had a very bad experience with a Palmgren arbor press. Maybe their cross sliding tables are different, but possibly not.

As long as the goal is just holding parts for easier, safer drilling, then go for it. If the idea is to do any milling, fuggediboudit. Trying to side cut with a DP is bad science; it will eventually harm the workpiece or the operator.

I might have a Mastercraft made in USA available in a couple weeks, once I find time to machine the sliding jaw to the vise portion.
