How hot do you think a copper pipe carrying air right off the air compressor gets? I am thinking pretty darn hot if using the thing hard (2 stage).

My question is would I need some kind of insulation jacket?

Normally I would just hole saw the wall material on both sides and put the pipe through then the caulking would hold that part in place.

I would like something low profile like a wrap, and has a good heat tolerance. Header wrap comes to mind, I had a roll somewhere, but can't find it at the moment.

You guys are adding a flex line between your pump and the hardline in shop right?

It will go a long way in keeping the system trouble free. I have a 1" dia 48" hydraulic line between mine and the wall. I dont have any heat at my rigid pipe.

Silicone sealant is pretty temp resistant. But I'd try the regular great stuff first. The pipe could get too hot to touch but its probably only 150F maximum. You could also use Roxul, I think its temp resistance is in the 1800F range.

Assuming you'll use 1/2" copper, Cut a 2" sch. 40 steel pipe sleeve and send the copper through that. Then pack between the copper pipe and steel sleeve with mineral wool. This is a UL Listed, 2 hour fire penetration.

Is the pipe coming right off the pump or off the tank? The pipe off the pump gets really hot. The one coming out of the tank not so much. I have my compressor in a separate building with a rubber hose running from the tank on it to the copper lines in my shop.
