I just started selling those Champion Compressors in the Philadelphia area. They are great! Low RPM, high cfm, American made AND priced right! Good Choice

The specs on mine are as follows:
Saylor-Beall model 75-80 splash lubricated-two stage compressor with electric Baldor motor running at about 1725 rpm, single phase, with a magnetic starter, Asme tank mounted, 5: HP, weight: 612, tank size: 80, pump model: 705, pump rpm: 845, DVLD CFM@175 psi, 17.3

Just finished wiring it to power yesterday complete with service disconnect box with time delayed fuses.

I still need to change air piping to filter to 3/4'. So far I've only got it at 3/4' from the ball valve to the point where it goes into a flexible pipe and then to ceiling.
I have that exact same compressor. I found somewhat locally (couple hours away) on ebay and got it for $400.:bounce:

Here is my old IR 5hp T10 60 gal. vertical that was in storage at a friends place for about 8 years before he finally relented to his wife's complaints and handed it over to me for the princely sum of $100! I added a number of shutoff ball valves and a pressure change activated drain plug. My original 33 gallon Craftsman vertical 1 stage oil-less is now plumbed inline and relegated to additional volume/tank capacity and "portable" duty for track events.

It is now housed in a purpose built insulated "compressor" shed just outside my garage. You guys have inspired me to re-plumb my distribution system with black metal piping and maybe add an aftercooler, filter and an intake silencer to help placate the neighbors.

As far as someone earlier mentioning having too many auto-retracting hose reels for such a small garage, they should never see the layout of my little "2 car garage"! ;)

I have a 3/8" 25 footer in the back by the side door with access to the "side" parking.

A 3/8" 25 footer attached to a rafter in the center of the ceiling.

A 3/8" 50 footer in one corner by the garage door that provides high volume for impact/air tools and my plasma cutter.

A 1/4" 75 footer that reaches all the way to the curb in the other corner by the garage door for when I need to run air to a car parked on the street.

If I'm working on something, I don't want hoses draped across the floor. It just drives me nuts. This way, no matter where I am in the garage, I merely reach behind me and grab the nearest hose, plug the tool into it with the quick disconnect and go to work. When done, the hose goes right back up into the reel. No muss, no fuss. And all the extra hose provides additional capacity...

Unfortunately, it's all plumbed with rubber hose today! DOH! Now I have ANOTHER project to add to my list...

I posted my blue one already,Quincy QT-5, but here it is in it's new location. I have it plumbed with 3/4" copper lines, couple HF hose reels too. Kinda hard to see but if you look hard you can see it still sits on it's pallet that was cut down and set in a JET Heavy duty mobile base so I can pull it out to clean/service it.

Next to it is a Smaller quincy that I ended up giving to my dad, and a makita mac700 compressor I use at work.

Not shown is a Ridgid 3-HP 5-Gallon Compressor OL50135 that is at my FIL's and a smaller B&D one that I have in my basement for blowing out computers etc.

Nice collection Brew. Speaking of basements, I have my 2-stage Snap-On unit plumbed for the garage as well as down into my basement workshop. So I have continuous air down there on demand, and never hear the compressor running ... which is a nice bonus.

I have a little 2 gallon Gast unit that sits down on top of the beer fridge. I rarely use it unless I need a portable unit to blow something out over at one of my kids places.

Well I can finally post to this thread, I've been following it for some time now. Last Friday, we dropped the Eaton 10HP 120-gallon single-phase compressor and air dryer off at the new shop. I installed a coalescing filter, regulator & gauge, then used BIP and a 12" length of flexible braided stainless hose to connect to the inlet of the dryer. From the output port on the dryer, air lines will be all Infinity compressed air piping and fittings purchased from Patton's. For now, here's a picture of the compressor. I'll add more pictures and feedback on the compressor's performance once it's all connected & running!

Eaton's website had all their colors listed, and I stumbled onto a picture of a compressor which had this black/red/checkered flag/Eaton "E" logo and thought it looked pretty cool. There was a $100 upcharge for that particular paintjob and flag decal. Heck, I was spending all that loot on the compressor & air dryer, so the decal seemed worth it.

Hmmm, very nice. Thanks for the quick response.

I just ordered a 5hp, 2-stage, 80gal on Friday. That's why I was interested and I hadn't seen one like yours. I was all set to buy a IR and stumbled across Eaton. So far, I'm sure glad I did (I would have got a lot less compressor for more $$$). I've haven't been able to find one negative comment about Eaton on many message boards like this one. They have a great website and are even better to talk to in person. I dealt with Steve and he was great. It was almost too easy to order...

Good luck with yours! I can't wait to get mine! Steve said I should see it by the end of next week.

Country-

One thing I was annoyed about (although I've gotton over it) on the compressor was the location of the output port. I think it would have been nice if Eaton had asked "which side of the tank would you like the output nozzle to be located"? Having it on the opposite side that it was installed on would have made my piping installation easier, and more logical.

Did they try to sell you an air dryer too?

Yeah, I've noticed from all of the pics I've looked at, that Eaton putt's the out port in a few different places with not much rhyme or reason.... I don't understand why... I've seem it on either side, middle of the tank and either side top of the tank... I'm not running any plumbing until I get it just for that reason.

He didn't try to sell me an air dryer. Probably because, he knew I was just a "Harry Home-owner" already buying a way bigger compressor than I needed...:D But hey, I don't know what I'll be doing a few years from now and wanted a "life time" compressor. I think I got it...

i seem to have deleted my one and only picture of my new compressor. so one from the net is the best i can do.

it's a Kobalt 60 gallon unit from Lowes. i haven't even hooked it up yet. still need to run a 220V outlet. for $400, it was the best in its price group.

Hi everyone. My first post. I love reading all the great things that others do. I just moved and my new house has no garage so I am in the design phase with all of my tools (including air compressor) in a pile in the basement. I have a question for those that have installed their compressor outside the garage in a shed or just under cover.

Are there extra considerations when doing this? The air that gets pulled in is obviously whatever is going on with the weather that day. Super cold or hot and humid. Is putting an air dyer or other device any more required for outdoor compressor as it is for an indoor one? Thanks for any insight.

Not as big as some here but does the job. Wanted something that could run off a standard 10amp socket and is portable.

If you can affordf the long term investment step up to rotary technology ... 50% more but you can have it right on the shop floor ...cooler cleaner air, 3 times the life. Body shops are all over rotary as it produces pulse free air. The CP QRS series is the best product for shops

Cornwell aught to be ashamed for calling that a 6HP. With the motor having a "special" rating it may even have a duty cycle (meaning not rated for continuous running).

In my research, it seem a lot of compressor company's are doing the same....

Mine is pretty standard, 5 hp 50 gallon single stage.

I did mess with the neighbors last weekend when I pulled it out to drain the tank and hose it off, the guy across the street was very interested in what I was doing so I went ahead and waxed it and armor-all'ed the wheels.
Neighbor just stood there with his mouth open.

Here's my new EATON 2 stage 5hp 80gal.
I'm not completely done with running all my air lines, but just got it wired and plumbed up last night.

Picked this up a few weeks ago from Lowes when they were running their 15% off power tools sale. They also let me use a 10% off movers coupon I had. Total out the door was $305 + tax. Still haven't hooked it up as I'm in the stages of planning my garage makeover.

I want to do some sandblasting, spraypainting and blowing up the odd tyre.:shocking:
It's plumbed straight into the workshop and is reasonably quiet in it's own shed.

If it's a Quincy, you can still get parts from Quincy. Not sure about the others.

Mine was build in the 60's and I can still get every part on it from Quincy if I wanted.

If you buy a quality unit, you shouldn't need much for a while...unless it's already dead of course.

Captain, are those ratings straight off your compressor? The reason I ask is I notice that there is a combination of metric and english units. (Litres per Minute and Pounds per sq inch). I find that kind of amusing. Do you guys run into that a lot down there with tools, machinery and such?

What do you have for ventilation? Seems like it would get quite hot in there with a metal roof and no insulation.
