Here's my quincy 325 I picked up a month ago for $550 it came with a 5hp single phase marathon chore motor to drive it. It needed a mag starter as they had it wired through the pressure switch. The marathon motor pulls 24 amps with a 1.15SF . The pump needed 2 valves to be replaced as the assembly bolt and valve plate were stripped. Lucked out the quincy dealer had a 325 with a blown crank so we pulled the 2 discharge valves out and they were like new got them for 40 bucks for both. Then I got the free air dryer from work which costs close to 400 new so I made a dryer setup. Replaced a bunch of gaskets on the pump and new mobil oil and air filter was replaced. Come spring it's getting sanded down and a new paint job so it looks like new as it's been pumping air sense 1985.

Nice unit. It's refreshing to see a real Quincy pump. Some of this new stuff looks pretty...sad.

I am wondering something though. I wonder why the discharge line appears to be 1/2 inch? When I was building these professionally, we always piped a 3/4 inch discharge on the 325. Either way, nice piece of quality right there !!

Yeah the new quincys are alright for home use and a small shop. I wanted a old industrial unit that I could restore and pass on to my boys one day. Everything about the 325 trumps any other compressor I've ever owned and restored. Glad I got a good quincy dealer local as the two discharge valve assembly are 120 each. To answer your question on the discharge line off the pump to the tank I beleive it's 3/4. I spoke with quincy and they said that this was there economy machine back in 85. It's a roc100. It does need a lil more minor work which will happen down the road the rod bearings need to be replaced and the crank journals polished and to hone the cylinder walls. I just need to get paint on it asap as it's such a eye sore looking like it does

ROC 100 is fairly new and a very desirable pump. I like those hydraulic unloader valve better than the modern types that screw in front of the oil pump housing. It's a cleaner look, too.

What makes you think that the rotating assemble needs work? How's your oil pressure running?

The oil pressure holds steady at 23 - 24 psi any lower and the hydraulic unloader doesn't have enough pressure to unload the head. I pulled the inspection cover and a rod cap and the bearing had rust stains along with the crank so it needs new bearings and the crank needs to be polished which is no biggie all easy work just time consuming. When I pulled the head to change the valves and inspect everything the HP cylinder wall had a rust mark the LP side looked great. So new oversized rings don't cost a lot and I can get the cylinder honed for cheap or buy a honing tool and do it my self. I only paid 550 for the compressor which was a steal and got 100 into parts in it so I'm still ahead of the game even after replacing some worn parts. The guy I bought it from kept it in a shipping container outside so it would run and cause condensation along with the lack of use to forum the rust stains. It's also 30 years old so basic stuff like that needs to be replaced over time. It runs great right now it can fill the 80 gallon tank to 150psi in 5 mins or less.

The compressor will live a easy life as it's in my garage at home the only tools it will ever run are a impact wrench and ratchet and a ingersoll rand 4151 air sander which pulls 16 cfm at full load, plan to sand the tank down and repaint everything to look like new. Got a guy at work making a new quincy sticker for it as well

Long story short, the old Quincy I had been planning on restoring, turned out to be in too bad shape to make it feasible. SO... Needing a compressor before my old one died, I bit the bullet and brought this one home.
She is a USA made Saylor-Beall model B-705-5. 2 stage, 17.3cfm @175lb, 80 gal, with 5 hp Baldor running at 845 rpm and 22.6a. She came with auto drain valve, and rubber vibration isolation mounts. Since it was right @ 72" tall, I had some concerns about fitting into the tool room which has a head room of just at 72", but it made it just fine between the joists.
Glad to make it part of the team. Think it will be the last one I'll need for a while. LOL

Before you purchase those high dollar valves, look here: http://www.airfloinc.com/listitem.jsp?item=1064

$40 for all you need to rebuild the head. Even if you have to pay to have the head and valves dipped, you will be MANY dollars ahead by repairing, rather than replacing :)

Also, I'm not much on how-to videos, but I came across a pretty good one on youtube. The guy even shows some of the tricks of the trade:

You can always turn that elbow for the air filter so it's not right above the head looks like it could give you a few more inches of room to play with

I had already went to the quincy dealer and we pulled both discharges valves out of a 325 that had a issue with the bottom end. They sold me both newer style valves along with the top plates for 40 bucks total which was a steal and awesome on there part

Honda: Thought about changing filter to different direction. Also thinking about piping it outside. But since it worked out as it did, I doubt I will change it now. What I need to do is jack up the old barn and make real head room...

Here's a video of the 325 up and running. Thought I had a bad wrist pin causing a rod to knock but what was happening was the valves were jumping inside the head cause I had never torqued down the set screws inside the valve plates. It runs perfect now and it's super quite, adjusting the set screw cut down fill up time by a minute to now 4:30 from 0 - 150psi on a 80 gallon tank

Awesome! (and didn't you know - you're not allowed to smoke while filming a Youtube video ;<)

If you want to make that unit even quieter, ad an inlet muffler or remote-mount the air filter/inlet pipe up and out of the room somewhere.

I've got a vertical-tank 325 still laying in the back of my truck (since December, yikes, but it does weigh over 800lbs) that I need to get running, but it has a 3-phase motor on it right now. Too many projects . . .

I actually like the sound that the air filter/intake emits it sounds cool. I really want a vertical tank but I live in a town house with 8ft garage ceiling and I don't think it will fit. If someone can measure the height of there 60 or 80 gallon tank from the floor to the mounting plate that would be great.

These quincys are heavy as hell me and my girlfriend used a cherry picker to get it out of the back of the truck and it was dangling all crazy and it had to be snowing at the same time I thought it was going to flip the cherry picker, thank god it didn't. I need another discharge valve as I broke the newer style press fit one from when it was jumping in the head from not having the valves torque down into their seat. Hopefully my local quincy dealer will sell me another 2 used ones for 40 bucks. Can't wait till its summer and I can see how hot this machine will actually run as it's been a super cold winter here in NY.

I've got an 80 gallon vertical Champion and even including the pump on top it's no where near 8 feet tall.

I had an uncle who was in charge of the motor pool while building the Trans-American highway through South America in the '60s. He told me that the American govt. sent them a semi load of reciprocating compressors that would cycle on and off with an open 1/2 inch line. He said he had no use for them so they just sat in a warehouse.

I'll put a tape measure to mine later this morning but from the ground to the top it's probably only 6' 6" or so. My garage ceiling is under 9 feet for sure. I've got a Lowes 80 gallon. i actually had enough room above mine that I took the old CH&A fan I had and mounted it above it. When it gets warm I turn the fan on and my compressor has forced air cooling.

It won't fit in my garage my ceiling is about 7 1/2ft tall and the 325 looks to be about 2ft. The unloading tower would hit the ceiling more then likely I had 2 vertical 60 gallon compressors prior to this but the pumps weren't nearly as tall one was a Rolair k25 and the other was a emglo GT model.

I picked up this Emglo portable w/ Honda 8hp engine as a secondary compressor for larger CFM duties. It puts out 15.5 @ 100 and 15.2 @ 175 psi. and I can roll it outside to where ever I need to sand blast something too big for the blast cabinet.

That is one AWESOME compressor you have there!
I had to look up the specs on it.
A Two Stage compressor with CFM @ 175 PSI is 15.2:rocker::D:drool:

A bit more than I probably need, but got a killer deal on it.

80 gallon IR @ 7.5 HP.

24 CFM @ 175PSI

At least I know I'm good for the sandblasting cabinet I would like to get someday!

Dang, first time I've seen one of those... looks like I'm going to need to start stuffing some change into a piggy bank. :shocking:
