Bought a house a few months ago and have been wiring insulating , sheathing walls, etc.

I'd like to get a compressor, on that'll run air tools, sand blast cabinet, and any other small things I might add.
Nothing major.

So what do I need to do this, just a hobby shop, not a pro, single stage , two stage etc?

Thanks.

Seeing as you’re just hobby use, get the best single stage 80 gallon compressor you can afford. I don’t think you really need two stage, but if it is in your price point, go for it. A five horse power would be an ideal size motor. So if you’re doing the wiring, run a minimum of 30 amp dedicated circuit. JMO.

If you can't afford a belt drive, wait until you can. Vertical tanks are easier to drain and have smaller footprint. 220v draws less amperage if you have it available.

Need photo or link to your "sand blast cabinet".

Media blasting is typically requires a HUGE amount of air.

My 80-gallon, 5-horse, two-stage runs constantly when the 'blaster is in use.

A typical 3hp, 60 gallon ~$500 compressor will probably barely keep up. So it will be fine for intermittent use but not enough for continuous spraying. If you have the space I would also suggest the 80 4-5hp range. They start around $1k new. You could consider running two compressors in parallel but that's a bit of trouble if you don't have some other reason to. Do you have space limits? Those 80 gallon compressors are big.

This is the model that I purchased. It has met all expectations. I do not however have a blasting cabinet.

This size compressor will start blowing moisture-laden air after about 10 minutes of continuous air use. As stated above, sandblasting consumes a huge amount of air and requires a much larger compressor for any type of continuous operation. You have to determine if it's worth it to go bigger right away, or just get something that handles 99% of your other air needs for now.

I bought the IR 5hp/60 gal sgl stage from Northern Tool over 10 years ago, still works Ok, no problems yet, but it's only home shop hobby use. I do have the HF cabinet and it works OK because I usually only do small parts, brackets etc. I have used it outside with a larger pot blaster and it runs continuous, mostly, but I got the work done.
