Looking for some Idea's and pictures how everyone has plumbed their shops with the compressor and air lines. Looking to make some changes and not sure what to plumb it with pipe wise

Thanks!

I used PVC in my old shop, worked great (for me) till I pulled to hard on a hose and broke the fitting off! In my new shop I will be running black gas pipe, little more work and cost but I won't have to worry about the pipe bursting or breaking!

For my size shop 1/2" would have been fine but I ran 3/4 inch pipe with 1/2 inch drops.
The first drop was about 30 ft and the final about 50ft

Black pipe was easy for me since I had access to a pipe threader only 2 blocks away. If you would have to go far and require a bunch of cuts with your layout it may be more efficient to run copper (if you are good at sweating the joints). I was tempted but opted for the Black pipe for the extra durability.. I didn't want to have to even worry about denting it.

My shop isn't as big as some so a 25' line used to get me anywhere I needed to go from the compressor. I did recently run a heavy duty air hose to a 50' hose real to keep from having to roll it up all the time and I ran that through an air dryer and regulator before the reel. Now I can make it to the driveway to fill up tires too. Pretty simple and fast.

This is some good info. I'm researching now to run a few drops off of my compressor. Didn't really need to do it until I got my bendpak.

Did anybody actually paint the pipe to blend in with the walls?

I also have my compressor in my basement.
I have the drops in the basement and used plastic tubing to a floor drain for the water that is in the lines.
You can hear it in the house but it's not bad at all...

I have a 30' x 80' shop where I ran 1/2" galvanized pipe throughout. Things to consider are as follows: 1. PSI is PSI and is constant all through a system, it's only the volume of available air that changes when two or more people are using the pressurized air system, then you may want larger pipe. 2. Black pipe was designed for natural gas usage and can rust when hot moist air from your compressor is run through it. I found this out the hard way when I went cheap and used some left over black pipe in my a/c system. The rust particles would clog my air filtration units and needed often to be cleaned. There are many opinions regarding air line systems, but this is what works for me.
