Any suggestions?

I have an electric one I got cheap, but it's gonna be hard to install.

Are the cheapies any good or do I bite the bullet and install this one? By hard I mean I will have to jack up the compressor - shorten the crimped flex line - run a 110 outlet closer.

I mounted my electric drain valve remotely, up on the side of the compressor, and ran a 1/4" OD air line from the bottom of the tank, up to the valve. Another length of air line runs from the exhaust port of the valve into the drain.

I figured that this made more sense than mounting the valve under the compressor, and I just made sure to set the timer long enough to purge the 1/4" line from the tank.

The tank is a buffer. It lets you use more air than the compressor can deliver for a short time. If you get too small a tank you won't be able to use more than the compressors output for as long.

I put an auto drain kit from Harbor Freight on my 60 gal vertical tank compressor several years ago and it works fine. It was < $10 on sale and not much more at "list". Cycles every time the presure control switch cycles so not much water comes out at any one time.

That's how my buddy has his, but if I remember corectly the model I have is supposed to be mounted below - thus my hesitation (laziness).

I mounted my electric drain valve remotely, up on the side of the compressor, and ran a 1/4" OD air line from the bottom of the tank, up to the valve. Another length of air line runs from the exhaust port of the valve into the drain.
