I am in the market for a bigger air compressor finally, I am limited to a smaller tank and oil-less for price reasons. The one I think I will end up with is pretty weak compared to most on here but these are its specs: 26 Gallon tank, 2hp motor, 135psi and 4.2 scfm at 90 psi. The reviews are great and it seems like a decent compressor. I want it to be able to run one 50 foot hose reel with 3/8" hose and I would eventually like to plumb it into a small shop air system with a few outlets not far from the compressor itself. Only tools it would see would be the basics, Impact gun, ratchet and very occasionally an hvlp gun. I understand it would run constantly with the paint gun but how about the rest of the tools? Just want to know if it will suit me or if I should hold out until I can afford a nice big one?? Any advice appreciated :)

I have had the 159 dollar HF 21 gallon compressor for 18 months now.

My brother ran the hell out of it last summer, using a DA sander and HF HVLP gun to paint a car. It performed flawlessly.

It is rated just shy of 5 cfm, and will run an impact in short bursts.

So far it's been a great unit for the money, and will fit your needs.

Good to know  Im looking at a cheap Canadian Tire model that is probably made by the same company as the harbor freight tools for double the price no doubt  They want $269 for it and I bet its the same thing re branded...Anyways thanks for the info on what it should do :)

Check out Craigslist/kijiji, there are deals out there. Good brands to look at are older Craftsman, Speedaire, Devilbiss, Campbell Hausfeld, Rolair, Emglo, Jenny, Quincy, Champion, and a few others that aren't quite coming to me right now. Ideally you want an oil lubed belt drive model, probably a 240v model if you can get power to it. Ignore hp ratings on anything newer than 70s vintage, many manufacturers straight up lie (6hp on 120v? Yeah okay :wtf:) Biggest things to watch out for are tank rust (any leaks = scrap the tank) and that you can hear the compressor run and watch it build pressure. I've picked up 3 cheap/free compressors over the last couple weeks and every one of them had locked up pumps from being left out in the rain. Get the biggest one you can afford, lest you end up wanting to upgrade shortly thereafter. Good luck with the search, and if you have any more questions, this forum is a tremendous wealth of information.

Do you have princess auto out in Nova Scotia? If so, check out the sanborn stuff, when on sale they have a nice 30 gallon.
