Compressor Control question

Hi Gang.
I bought this unit at auction and had it wired to the panel.
Its a 10HP 3 phase motor that was wired for high voltage when I bought it(460V).
We rewired it for 220v.40 amp
installed a new switch.
When we turn on the switch at the control box, the box just hums.
No sound from the motor at all.
The motor and pump spin freely.
Is there a different wire sequence in the control box that needs to be adjusted from 460v back to 220v as well?

Coil is 480v. Starter probably isn't big enough for that motor on 240v anyway

If 480V it's probably a Size 1 starter.
At 240 it would require a Size 2 starter.

Worked on a 10 HP 240V cardboard baler that had a OEM NEMA size 1 Joslyn Clark starter, vaporized the contacts after a number of years, causing it to single phase.

Do you have 480vac service available?

If so I would use that, much lower amp draw.

But, if your service is 240vac then as Bert said you need a motor starter with a 240vac coil OR you could use a 480:240 dry transformer in reverse to step up the control voltage to 480vac.

Best advice is to create some as-built wiring diagrams and put them inside of the panel once you get it working. Someday they will come in very handy.

Do you have 3 phase power? If you are missing a phase there will be a hum and no motion.

Thanks for all the advice.
I’m sure we have 600v service to the bay transformer
I’ll double check tomorrow
The electrician said he wired it 3 phase 240 with 40 amp
It does have a 480v coil installed so I either need to get 480v to the compressor and wiring the motor back to high voltage or swap out the coil and starter for 240v
