Compressor conversion-what do you think?

Problem is this-I currently own a Sears oil less 5 hp 22 gal. vertical compressor. It is so noisy that I cannot on running in the garage while I am working in there. I have no place to hide the compressor ie: outside, an attic or in the basement-it's stuck in the garage with me. I have the opprotunity to buy an 11 Gal. 2HP Campbell Hausfeld Cast Iron Compressor for $125.00. I was considering transfer the motor and compressor unit from the Campbell to the Sears so as to have the larger tank. Any thoughts, suggestions or comments?
Thanks

I played with this idea myself one time. I think the mounting pad on the direct drive Craftsman is too small to mount a conventional compressor setup. But maybe you can mount everything to some metal plate, and then bolt that to the Craftsman?

Why not just connect and run the larger tank in series with the new little one? If space is an issue, consider mounting the larger tank overhead.

I can't see putting that small of a pump on in the name of trying to keep it quiet. If you're trying to stay compact, build one. That's the route I'm going. One of these days, I need to take the time to finish it...

Where is the noise comming from?
Often it is the inlet side of the compressor.
Try putting a small engine muffler on the inlet pipe.
It might solve your problem for less than $15.00

This is simply the nature of an oil-less compressor pump. Sometimes they have an open "crankcase" where you can see the crank and rods, and in any case, the metal making up the pump is very thin in comparison to oil filled pumps. The oil in an oil filled pump also ***** up some of the noise.

Case iron oil filled is the quietest, an aluminum crankcase-iron cylinder oil filled pump is slightly louder. A all aluminum pump with steel sleeves that is oil filled is even louder, and an oilless pump is about nine on the Richter scale of noise.

Nissan that thing is sick. What's the motor size/pump output?

I've started to resent that fact that I had to buy a 60 gallon tank to get a 3hp/10scfm compressor. If I could find a 20 gallon tank for cheap I'd be a happy camper.

Just wait until you turn 60, then it won't sound so noisy anymore

Falthead, I am doing something simular. I have a 7 hp oil less compressor with a bad pump, on a 60 gal tank.

I cut the motor shaft and had a machine shop put a 5/8 shaft in the motors shaft, as then I could install a pulley. I will buy a HF cheap 2 cyl., single stage compressor to match the 7HP motor.

Forget the HF pump... buy an Eaton pump from Eaton Compressors... great prices and way better quality!

Don't forget that your motor is not really 7 hp. Its 7 starting hp, which equates to about 4 actual running hp.
