Compressor cooler setup

Just a few pics from this weekend. I am setting up a Franzinator and "Camby Cooler" for my compressor...so the air flows in that order...and did some welding this weekend...

Are those Muffler clamps for the Fraz...?
That is funny, I ordered some 2-3/4" muffler clamps today to use as a mount around the column of a drill press. Instead of drilling holes in my casting, the clamps will hold a flexible light.

Is that the Mcmaster-carr cooling fan?

Muffler clamps to the rescue.I don't need to reinvent the wheel...the muffler clamp will work perfect!!!

The cooling fan came from a prototype water cooled laser system we experimented with years ago. I have 2...as they were going to throw them away...

More pics will be coming. But, I need to get all the hardware in place and fittings installed so I can custom order the braided interconnect lines...

Fundamentally..when air is compressed it gets hot and any water (moisture in the air) stays in vapor form and is carried in the air stream with the flow of the compressed air. That messes up tools, paint guns, snadblasters, etc.

Air that expands cools and releases the moisture in the form of condensation. A coelescing filter can then capture a lot of the water. The franz is just a 3' pipe that allows for expansive refrigeration. I am using a 2-part process...first the franz and then (what I call) the Camby Cooler which is a fluid cooler with a 220V fan blowing air across it...

The air will then go through a coelescing filter and into the tank...

Thanks burgie. I have several motorcycle radiators. Could I use those to achieve same goal. Your compressor is awesome. I really like the square tubing mount. I would like to mount a hose reel to one side(compressor is outside). Did you just through-bolt it to the tank plate?

Unless you have AC on those MC I don't think they would work.

The aftercooler has to take pressures of 130 thru 175psi depending on the compressor. Most radiators are designed for 15psi operating pressures.
Some MC's have oil coolers, but doubt they would be large enough to do much.

Look for a Oil cooler, dedicated aftercooler, or possibly a condenser from a AC unit. Some have used coiled copper tube over a fan, in a bucket of water, or ran it thru a refrigerator.

I will be layed up for a weeks, and also on meds, so if I sound dumber than usual, I'm blaming that.
I'm was in the process of sanding a new old tank. I would like to prep it the way I want before I shoot some paint on it

OK...some more pics with the franzinator and fittings installed. The fittings are 3/4 NPT to 37 degree AN (JIC) and I will be ordering the braided lines this week. I buried the blower control braid inside the tubular framework and under the pump/motor deck of the compressor. I just need to get some wire to snake inside the sheathing and I'll get the fan wired...

All in all...a productive weekend screwin' around in my shop!!!

Where are you getting your custom hoses? Are they all SS or is it a SS wrap over silicone hose?
I have uses 100% SS (accordion look) hose with a braided SS cover from MSC direct. Was impressed with the flexibility. They were 3/4"npt ends, but JIC was also available. Seemed like they were around $60 for 18" but the company paid for them.

I am getting polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) hoses. These will be 3/4" inside diameter with a 1" outside diameter. The highly flexible PTFE core is wrapped with a fiber braid and then the outside is a Type 304 stainless steel braid. Minimum bend radius is 3.5" which is great for me as I don't want any kinks...even though most loops will be in the 6" - 8" diameter range. These have an operating temperature range of -65ºF to +450ºF and the working pressure is 1,250 psi with a burst of 5,000 psi...

I'll post more pics when I get them installed...
