Compressor drain line material???

What material do you guys use for a drain line on your compressors? I HAD used a pice of black iron pipe but it rusted out at the threads and broke off. Will galvanized pipe rust?

I have a short brass union connected to a brass ball valve. I say either brass or copper for the line - no rusting.

how long did that take? cause i've worked on compressor that were installed
before WW2. might be a galvanic corrosion, or ?????

Another vote for brass.....

My compressor has a 1/4" NPT drain. I used brass parts from the Home Cheapot to get out from under the tank, and terminated it in a 1/4" ball check-valve.

When I want to drain it, I have a 6' piece of PVC I screw on the end of the ball valve with an adapter, then open the valve. The PVC gets the water out on the driveway instead of letting it run all over the garage floor.

It was over the course of about 3 years, and it was drained regularly...No idea why it happened so fast...I thought it funny as well...I work p/t at a goodyear, and the compressors we have in the shop have the same setup I have at home with no issues...

Regardless, I stopped at homers on the way to work today and bought brass parts to use....I'll be back in business in a little while...

Hell I just bleed it right out into open air. Galvanized will rust too
