Hi everyone, I have a new CH VT6275 compressor with 3.2 marathon motor, 230v. I have power thru the pressure switch to the motor, but it does nothing when i flip the switch to auto. Contacts are closed on the pressure switch and I verified power to the motor. How should i check to see if i have a bad capacitor. Or am i just missing something. Thanks in advance.

Take the load (belt) off of the electric motor. See if it spins up. It might be able to even with a bad capacitor. Otherwise, there could be some kind of overheat switch in the motor that has tripped.

Took that apart, motor spins freely, so aat least thats not locked up. Just looking at the capacitors, they dont seem to be bulging or no marks any way. Just got this two weeks ago and just got around to it. Pretty frustrating, there is an overload button on the motor but it just pushes in and does nothing just spring loaded.. I can rule out the pres. switch right? since i have power going thru it to motor or could that still be a cause. Thansk for the help.

So, belt off, the motor doesn't spin with current applied?

If not, bypass the switch and everything else (while the compressor is unplugged obviously) and wire the motor straight to the cord, then plug the cord in and see if the motor starts with no load.

Yes Charles it is new and am now waiting, wiating, waiting for CH onsite warranty to come and troubleshoot. They pretty much have you do the same as TWX suggested to do. Since it came direct from them return is not much of an option. I dont know how many times someone has come to a site to troubleshoot something only to say "I didn't bring that part" So more waiting to do!

It has 240v at the motor, still havent heard from Campbell Hausfeld on when someone will come and look at it. I've heard thy're cust. svc. is really bad when it comes to this. With 240 at the motor and not even a noise or attemp to start; thats why I was asking about the capacitors, this motor has two with obvious signs of being bad. I can get to them easy, just wondering if anyone has troubleshot them. I'm not gonna take the motor housing off unless i never hear back from CH.

You can check the capacitors if you have a multimeter with a capacitance measuring setting. The setting should look like this symbol -l l-. It will measure the UF, so if the cap says 45UF you should get a reading within +- 5% or so if it's good.

P.S. Make sure the Cap is discharged before connecting meter.:shocking:
