Compressor filter: what fits my pump?

I've had this old Sanborn compressor for years (bought used) and it doesn't have a filter. Now that I've read too much of this site, I want to put a filter on it. I've read most of the old threads about filters to see if someone had the same problem and nothing showed up.

So this is what I'm working with

There are no screw holes or slots that could accept a filter that I know of. And there is no plate or identification as to who makes the pump. What direction should I be pointed in?

I cut a scrub pad (3M fine) to fit and sprayed it with WD40. Works better then nothing.

Edit: that was on an old Emglo KU model, I have seen proper filters for similar units at Princess Auto but could not justify the price they wanted for it. I was considering cutting and tapping a piece of flat aluminum to receive a pair of small canister filters and siliconing it in place but I found my Quincy 214 and upgraded.

I have a Sanborn and it just had felt pads for an air filter. I cut up a window AC filter from a garage sale and folded it a few times and put it in place of the felt. It pumped up much faster when not sucking air through 1/2" of dense fabric!

I drilled and tapped a few holes around the rectangular opening and then cut a piece of aluminum speaker grille to fit and screwed it on. My was slightly different than yours but the principle is the same.
