Hi. Long time member/lurker. Live in rural Alabama. Have opportunity to get a couple of I/ R 2545 air pumps. Need to know if they can be driven with 7.5 hp motors. If so what rpm, upper pressure setting.

I looked at HomeDepot.com. Their 2545Kv-10 is a 10hp x 3phase compressor. So I would think a 7.5hp would work. Biggest problem in my opinion is sourcing the fan-blade sheave that one needs for the compressor input shaft. I would not go cheap there, I would try to find OEM. Many of them have a 2-bolt clamping setup for the bore which clamps the shaft better than any straight bore sheave could do, short of setting up for trying to engineer a press or shrink fit. I would copy motor RPM & sheave size from the existing product you can buy in stores.

As far as putting a 7.5hp motor and adjusting the pressure switch, I'd do it ith a clamp-on ammeter. Start at 100psi, then you ramp up the pressure switch setting until you see the motor approach the FLA rating right as it cuts off. That's your maximum.

Yeah. Your reply is what I've been thinking. Looked at I/R website, even got a phone number to the tech support department. Tech department is always under "heavy call load situation", suggesting to leave message. At work, that's not something I can do. (Control room setting. Someone may or may not be in there.) Tried for 2 days to get through. Tapor lock sheaves would certainly be used. Was just hoping to find someone who has one.

By the way, the compressor sheaves are still in place. Would be using taper lock sheave on motors. Just didn't want to put out all of this effort, money just to find out I haven't really gained any thing.

Wanted to bring this back to the front. I've bought both of them. Haven't gone to get them, we've agreed to terms. Being a rotating - shift worker, it'll be a few days. In my search, I found a rep in the state that helped me with info on driving those bigger pumps with 7.5 hp motors. I bought a couple of pigs in a poke, can't hear run, may have to rebuild pumps. Who knows....we'll see how my luck runs... Usually not that good, but. ....maybe we all can learn something from this.

The combined output of both pumps is going to give you near 60cfm@90psi. Thats a LOT of air! What are you using them for?

G P, others,
Don't really NEED that much air, but with 2 blast cabinets, pressure pot, etc, just trying to make some upgrades b4 retirement. Currently have a 3hp 60g single stage, and 5hp 80g two stage. Both older , 50 plus yrs old. Still doing what they do. Not all parts available. I restore Cushman scooters, work on HD motorcycles. Most anything I want, nothing I don't want to. Bought some "pigs in a poke" project compressors, tanks. Currently, my controls allow 1, or other, or both pumps to run. Starters mounted inside, compressors outside. Starters are large enough for 7.5hp. More later. Gotta go.

Update....to get the 2 I wanted, had to buy the lot. Total of 9 tanks, 6 of them 120g, 3 80g. tanks. Some had pumps, motors, not 1 single starter worth keeping (weather). Have sold a couple of 120g tanks, 1 120g,10hp unit. A couple of the pumps are only good for parts. I/R 2340l5 and 2475 pumps. If you need anything from them, let me know. More later.
