I searched the forum but, was unable to find exactly what I was looking. So I thought I would ask you a question about how to hook up my compressor at my new house. My compressor has a black, red and green wires. The green is just grounded to the electrical box of the compressor. The new plug I had installed has 4 prongs on it. I bought a dryer cord that matches the plug and amp rating but, I don't know what wires go where. :shocking:

The old house was much easier since it had a three prong plug in the wall.

Thanks for your help.

The pig tail you purchased should have a black, red, white and either a bare or green wire. Tape off or wirenut the white one as it is not used on your compressor. Then just hook the rest up matching the colors, and attaching your green grounding conductor to the (green or bare) wire. Technically you are suposed to change the plug and receptacle to the proper amp ratings for the motor load, and also the motor branch circuit protection device may need to be changed.
