What hoses have you found that hold up well? I have a Good Year hose (from HF, so is it really Good Year?) that after 3 years is all cracked. Do I buy another for $20 and replace it every 3 years or do I spend a bit more and get one that will last? Looking for something flexible and easy to coil, not like the PVC or poly hoses.

What you need is a true EPDM hose. Go to your phone book and look up local hydraulic/industrial hose suppliers. They should have a decent selection of air hose on the shelf, and many good shops will have them pre-made at a fair price. Where are you located?

I got my yellow Goodyear hoses at Amazon.com, they look the same as the ones that HF sells, and some are 6 or 7 years old without any cracks or leaks. I think the secret to hose longevity is to not walk or drive on them.

My Good Year hose is at least five years old, red, from Sears. The only issue I have with it is the stiffness, it's tough to uncoil and lay out flat.

Air temp, humidity, sun light and chemicals that they are exposed to make a huge difference in how long they last.

Most hoses do not have a uv inhibiter in them so sun light will destroy them in short order.

A few years ago I got 3 cheap hoses from a local distribuiter, they had made them up for a order and the guy didn't come get them.

One I put on the truck, one went in the heated shop and one was in the shed, the one on the truck lasted just over a year, the one in the shed was cracked and actually burst in use about 3 years in and the one in the heated shop is still going strong, about 7 years later.

Pretty much spot on, it mostly depends on how you take care of your equipment.

With that said I still strongly recommend a true EPDM rubber hose. It will last the longest in UV environment and stays fairly pliable in cold weather. The only down side to EPDM is its not great with chemicals and oils.

Never heard of that, but if it does what it claims should work great. Seems to get pretty good reviews on amazon as well.

My Goodyears from Harbor Freight are at least 8 years old, and still are perfect. They stay in the garage coiled up and are only pulled out of the garage when needed for a short period of time. I'd be willing to bet it's UV that kills them mostly. That certainly dry-rotted my original set of F1s on my truck, before I was able to get it in the garage:(

Speaking of air hoses, where can I get short hoses? I'll need a couple of 24" hoses soon. One to attach the compressor to the main line and another to attach a retractable hose reel to the main line.

Tractor Supply has 3/4" diameter X 2' hydraulic hose for cheap. Both TP Tools and Amazon.com has 2' whip hoses in 3/8" or 1/2" diameter.

Same with mine. I have a cheap hose from China that I got at Tractor Supply. It is on it's 5th or 6th year, now. It's stiff as heck but it still works really well. There are no cracks with it yet.

This is what I use. Light weight. flexible and tough. Way better than rubber hose.

I bought the red hose, that I'm fairly certain is Good Year, from Grainger probably 10 years ago, and it's still in fantastic shape. I always keep it wipes off though and never drag it around on the floor and such, or walk or drive over it.

I did have some of the Yellow Hose from TSC, or at that time I think it was Quality Farm & Fleet, and I hated it. It started cracking, plus you could hardly roll the stuff up it was so stiff. I think I got $10 out of it in a garage sale we had.

Get some Parker push-lok hose, you'll will it to your grandchildren. I've had the same hose on my service truck for 16 years, out in the weather 24-7. It's as flexible as anything I've used, and it's durable as hell. I have one splice in it, but it's my fault, I cut it. It's impervious to oil, and UV doesn't seem to bother it either.

Now that's cool. Vendors or on-line only?

Its made by quite a number of manufactures, all use the same standard Push-Lok fittings. Local hydraulic shops should stock and sell it by the foot.
