I recently picked up a small compressor for $20 with the idea of cleaning it up and maybe a bit of a tune up. Can anyone tell me what brand this is? It works fine, but it only build up just under 70lbs of pressure. My main uses are to fill motorcycle tires and maybe the stray pool float. I was wondering if it would be possible to increase the pressure safely and, if so, what type of tools could a run with a compressor this small?

Dad has one, it came from Sears. His seems to be a well made little compressor. He just uses it for portable jobs like spraying drywall texture. It fills faster than my little Speedaire. When it builds to 70lbs does the motor kick off or will it just not build any higher?

Clearly a Sears/Craftsman compressor from the '70's. I have a one horse two cylinder, same color, some pressure switch, and cast manifold set up.

The handy box and switch I added. Its 12 gal tank. I think the smaller ones were 9 gal tanks or something like that.

Sears, huh? I wonder if a can find a manual for it?

It runs until 70psi and shuts off. The sticker says not to try to adjust the pressure, but reset the unloader in the event it did shut down too soon. I have no idea how to do that.

pretty much all compressors say not to adjust the cut in cut out pressures in the manual and in the black box.

try and adjust it. make sure the tank seems in good shape though.

The tank seems pretty solid. I pulled the lid to the pressure switch and inside the cover were the cut in/cut out numbers - 80 and 100 - and how to set. Turned the nut and it went up to 100 pretty easily. Cut out was right at 80. Backed off to 95 just because and we're good to go! I have to say I enjoy the sound of this old compressor much better than the high pitched chatter of my little pancake compressor. Now to find a handle to fit.

It'll probly run an impact wrench, though you'll have to wait on it every other lug nut. Air ratchet n stuff. But not an air hog tool, like a sander or anything that runs constant. But cheap air tools usually use more air. But it'll do okay. Specialy for twenty bucks. Make a handle out of rebar.
