Compressor in a well house?

I would like to put my 80 gal. compressor in this well house. The inside dimensions are 43" x 47". The compressor, at it's widest point is about 32", so it would be a little tight. Up top I would build an enclosure with plenty of ventilation. Anything glaringly wrong with this plan?

Also, I'd like to ask you all for idea's on the floor. It's currently dirt. Do you think 2-3 inches of concrete would be sufficient? Something better? Easier? Thanks!

Do 4 inches of concrete, any less will be more prone to cracking, and many states (lord knows why) require 4 inches of slab, 4x4 ft on a well head.

Where is your well tank located? in or under the house?

Don't forget, that compressor may be in the way some day when you have to have the pump pulled, but the well driller who pulls the pump can take his rig and lift the compressor out and set it to the side, just more work.

Thanks for the reply, Charles. I guess I should have clarified. The well is no longer in use. I figured, I have a nice solid "building" here, so what can I do with it? Moving the compressor outside will free up a small bit of space and quiet the place down.

So, that being the case, do you still think I need 4" of concrete?

You could put down a layer of sand, and then pavers, for a quick and cheap solution. You will be glad to get the compressor away from the shop!

I might be also inclined to put down a water proof membrane sheet to stop damp/moisture rising up through the base and your compressor sucking up condensation/damp air :( just a thought :) it's not like a an air receiver don't struggle enough with moisture

I think the concrete would be best for dust reasons. Just be sure to have plenty of air available for cooling.

All good ideas here. When you add to height and roof along with vents you could also add a small fan, since you will have power there already. Also good idea to have a single light bulb mounted. I'm guessing open front will be an access door?

Thanks for the replies! 1Steve, yes, I plan to put an access door in that opening.

I think I'll be OK there. The well house is less than 10 ft. from the back of the building.

That looks like a good start for building a nice home for a compressor. Depending on proximity of your neighbors, you may want to look at an intake silencer, as well.

Well, it's nearly done. Thought I'd post a couple pics. I'm very satisfied with the results.

Wow, I am impressed, Will there be condensation issues with the air going from an unclimatized pump house to the garage?

Thanks. And, no, it shouldn't be an issue because the shop is not climate controlled either.

That came out great. Like someone built a compressor house for their well pump at some point. Dimensions seem about perfect.
