Compressor inspection plug removal

Hi all,

Trying to removing the inspections plugs from an atlas copco compressor but not having much like. Not sure if they would have used loctite on them?

Any have any advice on how to get them off?

Most likely rust. I'd use a torch and heat around the bung. You need a torch large enough to heat the bung quickly enough that it expands before the heat soaks into the plugs allowing it to expand also. Large Crescent wrench with a cheater pipe.

Around the bung, do you mean heat the female threaded part? The bit with the weld around it?

thats what he means. get in there with high heat fast , before heat can transfer to the plug, then try to remove it . the fast heat expands the bung before it transfers to the plug giving it some relief

Ok got them off, came off very easy with some heat, shifter and a piece of exhaust pipe as an extension. :)

It looks rusty and sludgy inside. I need to hit it with the pressure washer first before I can assess it's condition properly.

Not building a smoker at this stage, plan to get it going again if the tank looks ok inside.

But if the tank is junk then maybe I'll build a smoker [emoji3]
