Compressor isolation pads. Where to find cheap?

The reason they tell you to bolt the compressor to the floor is because if there is a problem with sudden pressure loss (hole, compressor comes appart etc) a full tank is going to move in a hurry and could hurt anyone close to it.

Good point. I will definitely be bolting mine down.

One thing to note, what about portable compressors?? They're not bolted down.

Don't know where I saw it (still trying to find it), but there was a thread out on the internet talking about how some guy's compressor exploded. Basically, the pressure relief or something was not working right and it just kept pumping until it blew up. When it blew up, the compressor shot across the wall and put a huge dent/hole in it. I wish I could find the picts. Pretty amazing.

lol....No silly, we're talking about bolting the compressor down. Not the compressor I'm thinking of but nonetheless:

This is what I ended up using, $4 each and doing the intended job, can't complain.

There have up to 250 lbs per mount version, my compressor weights 400 lbs so I choose 100 lbs x 4, it worked perfectly. Not much slop .1" deflection but definitely cushions. I also have a rubber waffle washer at the lag bolt to minimize vibration transmitted.

Depends on the size of the opening. If it forms a decent sized nozle it wouldn't toss the compressor from one side of the shop to the other, but it would definatly topple one over. Possibly on a child, you, or even *gasp* the hot rod or tool box!

Will this be okay?
- Compressor mounted to 2x4's with bolts (bolt heads countersunk)
- Rubber mat (the kind you buy in PepBoys for like $20 for a couple sections) under the compressor
- Not bolted to the floor

As long as it doesn't walk I guess it's ok. I prefer bolted down because I live in earthquake area.

Lol...yea I got wrenches...they're all over the floor waiting to be be cleaned up.

How about those rubber car floor mats, especially the square ones that go into the rear cab of a truck??? It might just work.

I like the concept of compressors blowing up. It looks to me like a Compressor Scattershield(tm) might be the next great profit area.
