Thermal motor shut off keeps tripping!

CH 5.0 horse 80 gallon compressor

If I have a constant load on the compressor it will not cut out.

If I let it go by it self it will cut out at about 120 psi ill wait a few moments and reset the switch and we are good to go.

Suggestions?

Check the amperage draw of the motor against it's nameplate ratng at the pressure when it trips off and check that you have adequate voltage - you aren't using some crazy long extension cord of tiny wire gauge are you? And check the temperature set point of the overload against actual temp. It could simply be that the motor can't handle the load you are asking of it.... Many inexpensive compressors are not designed to go past 120 psi. And frankly for most tools you need 90 and your compressor will make more air volume at a lower set point.

Describe what you mean by a constant load? Is that where you never let it reach cutoff like running a sandblaster?

What is normal cutoff pressure on this compressor?

Are you working it hard in a 130 degree closet?

Has it ever worked 'normally' for YOU?
