compressor Issue?

So I have this old Sanborn compressor that I think may have an issue. While I am using tools and it is running, it hits a point that it seems to sound like it is just free wheeling. Doesn't sound like it is making pressure, just truning the compressor. I am wondering if there is anything I need to look into, or is this thing telling me that it is on it's last leg and to get ready to replace it?

Sounds like a valve problem. It's certainly worth attempting to fix, assuming the rest of the compressor is worth the effort.

If it's got a 130 or 165 pump, the parts are readily available. The valve plate is about $60 and you need some gaskets if that's the problem. I've got a Sanborn 130 pump. Nice unit and worth the time and money to fix if it suits your needs.

I recommend that you check out the tank to make sure it's not at the point of rusting through before sinking too much money.

I'm in the process of building a 60 gallon horizontal compressor with the Sanborn pump and a 20A @ 115V motor. Just for fun. Probably sell it when I'm done for someone who wants 60 gallons of air storage but doesn't have 230V to power it.
