Compressor Issues

I’ve had my Craftsman air compressor for a couple months now. I have not drained the water out of it until tonight. When I did, I noticed there was oil in the water. I’m thinking that it may just be from the compressor being new and not fully sealed. I checked the oil and it is not low. :Help: What do you guys think? :headscrat

ARAMP,

Did you buy this new?

Normal Oil coming past rings, nothing to worry about, helps lubricate things. If you are going to paint, make sure you have a good oil and water trap! :lol_hitti

Obviously, you know by now that you should drain your tank every day after you use it.

What you describe is not unusual, my dad bought a CH new years ago that drained milky looking water from day one, that was at least twenty years ago and the same compressor is still working just fine!

Not trying to hijack this thread but this brings up a question I have been wanting to ask. I will be getting my first compressor (joy-joy) very soon.
Anyway, I guess the proper thing to do is drain it EVERY time you finish using it. Remember I just a rookie :)

I would. In fact I crack the drain just about every time I'm in the garage - whether I use the compressor or not. I know it's overkill, but I look at it as being better than underkill!

You got to figure that if you put your tools up after every time you use them (and I figure that since we're here, most of us care enough to do that), than it's pretty easy to add draining the water out after every use to the routine.

I've heard of some people that leave the drain slightly cracked open all the time. Just enough to where you hear a very slight hiss and water never builds up in the tank.

I know it is expesive but I got an electric solenoid blow down with adjustable time between blow downs and time period for blow down and it goes off every 45 min for about 15 seconds I think it is money worth having in that it samve the tank from rust out. Ed ke6bnl
