Good morning fellow GJers , I have a 5hp 2 stage IR compressor that likes to take a walk.......currently it is on the pallet it came with.......floor is concrete with radiant heat so floor anchors are out.......I was thinking of building a platform attached to the wall with rubber between the platform and the floor to absorb vibrations and the "hockey puck" insulators between the compressor and the platform......the thought being less vibration and less noise.....any thoughts and or pictures of the mounting of your compressor to achive this will be helpful.........bobbycoke

Just placing it on rubber mounts more than likely will keep in from moving around. It is possible the pallet's foot print is uneven causing it to walk.

Take 4 squares of 1/4" (belting or mud flap material) Apply silicone under the pad and also under the leg. Once this sets it won't walk but if you want to move it, you will have to break the bond with a sharp bladed tool to cut through the silicone while applying some "tilt" to the unit.

The problem is exacerbated by the pallet. They flex and create bounce and allow the whole thing to hop around and move. I suggest you lose the pallet and set it on vibration eliminator feet.

I took mine apart and had it balanced. Night and day difference.

They installed a big weight on the pulley. Balancing the crank counterweight was going to be too expensive using Mallory Metal because it was so far out of balance.

I have mounted larger (30 hp ) motors to patio stones for ballast. You can then put a pad beneath the patio stone to protect the finished floor

I have my 80 gallon Husky sitting on a piece of conveyor belting. Hasn't moved in 10 years.

My Cambell Hausfield 60 gal. vert is lag-bolted to the original pallet. It would vibrate and tend to walk when it ran.

I just went to Homey Depot and got some medium-sized angle brackets and installed from the top of the pallet boards to the vertical wall (also boards in my case) with decking screws.

There's really not much force on the brackets at all. It's been fine for a couple of years.

I did an in floor heatsetup as well and was kind of bummed about not being able to anchor stuff to the floor if needed.. The concept of drilling the floor freaked me out.

However, anchoring to the floor might not be completely out of the question- That is if you can get your hand on a FLIR camera. The camera can accurately pinpoint where the loops are in the floor and you can mark the middle point between the loops to give yourself tons of space. Most loops are 12" - 16" centers with some perimeter loops being 6"

I used my finger to create a heat impression on the top of the floor so I could double check that the heat impression left was far away from my pex loops.

Just an extra option to consider.

I built a heavier pallet and set it on a 3/4 inch mat then set some solid blocks inside the pallet. My 60 gallon HF compressor seems to stay put.

Get either some hockey pucks and make your own feet, or you can order some rubber insulator feet from McMaster Carr in a variety of shapes & sizes...

Had a 5hp, single stage, 60 gallon Sanborn compressor on the factory pallet. Was in 4 different garages over 15 years and never moved, on its own anyway. Weird.

Put my 60 gal on hockey pucks, and even with my floor highly sloped near the wall it hasn't moved at all.

I put my 60 gallon Quincy on horse stall mat that you can buy by the foot at a farm supply store. Never has moved and was cheap. Hockey putts aren't very common around my neck of the woods.
