The compressor motor took a dump. Last time I had it rebuilt locally. I know the location is still there but I’m not sure he is open right now. Plus he is slow and expensive. Does anyone know of a place I can order a motor for this? I’m not sure what I need to look for to get the exact fit. I can run down and grab measurements if the pictures aren’t enough. Just trying to get a head start before calling places tomorrow. Thanks guys

Is the motor bad, or just a bad capacitor?

Don’t know I’m not an electric motor guy. I killed power when it made noise. Let it cool off thinking maybe it got hot or tripped the breaker. Went to try it and a flame and spark shot out of the motor. Assumed it was bad when I saw that.

So 15A on 240V is essentially a 3HP motor. The 5hp SPL is marketing. You want a NEMA 56 Frame (references where the bolt holes and plates are), so should interchange. RPM is a 3450. Continuous duty, service factor of 1 means 100% use.

This was the second hit when I typed in 3HP compressor motor into Google.

Harbor Freight's 3HP compressor motor is slightly undersized compared to the one on your machine (12.26A vs 15A), but may be a quick fit.

looks like you want a 240 volt, frame 56 ,3 to 5hp compressor duty , 3450 RPM , match the shaft size for the pulley and determine the rotation of the motor. some are reversible and others aren't .

The motor frame is the most important spec. That will determine shaft size, mounting hole locations, etc. Obviously make sure it has enough power, a true 3hp is close to what you actually have and make sure the motor rotation is the same. You should be able to get something new for under $200, under $150 if you're lucky.

That special duty is a reference to the fact that the motor is not rated for 100% run time. OK for light duty compressors but not worth repairing. As stated, get a 56 frame with at least 100% duty rating. I personally won't buy anything less that 115%.
