Found a bel air 80 gallon compressor on craigs. Wondering if this could be wired for single phase use for a home garage as the current motor on the compressor is wired for 3 phase use.

Compressor motor says 208 - 230/460 Three phase.

See attached picture

Thanks

No, replace the motor or use a static or rotary converter. Both will be very expensive options.

That motor is worth some money ! It will pay for more than 50% of a good 1 ph motor.

You can down size to a 5 hp motor if you change the pulley size.

A static converter will not work for a compressor, as they merely start a 3Ø motor & then it single phases, which means a 1/3 loss of HP. A replacement single phase motor is the best choice.

There is another post on here about a 10 HP VFD for a massive Quincy. It's about 1100 bucks. Single phase 5 HPis 400 ish? 7.5 is ??? So add all that plus a mag starter if you can't use the 3 phase starter. So unless the compressor is damn near free you will be better off looking for a single phase

Around here on CL, 3 phase motors go for 100/150 bucks. They have a limited audience unless some one is building and RPC
