compressor not building enough air?

hoping someone here can help me .........i bought a compressor and just got it hooked up its around a 73 model and its not building enough air to even show up on the gauge ...just wondering if anyone could give me some things to look for as in trouble shooting

What kind of compressor pump? Oilless, single-stage, dual-stage? Photos would help with diagnosis.
