Compressor Oil

Concerning the Ingersoll-Rand compressor oil I recommended earlier, it's interesting to note that my IR SS5L5 warranties a 100% duty cycle when using synthetic lubricant-- one of the few on the market to offer that (most come in at 80%). However, using petroleum lubricant drops the warrantied duty cycle rating to 60% per hour with a maximum of 10 on/off cycles.

Since the crankcase only holds a half quart, and since the IR synthetic only costs about $5 a quart-- complete with a very convenient pouring spout-- it's worth the peace of mind to listen to IR on this one.

I will go with Ken on that, we ain't talking a fortune and comps often get neglected, the best oil cant hurt. It was nice of him to bring up duty cycles.

Interesting. I have that same compressor. Don't have a book for it though.

I thought it was odd there was no oil filter on it. The pumps I'm used to working on have at least 1 oil filter, sometimes 2.

Exactly the same as my ~2005 Husky Pro 60 gal cast iron with made in the USA pump. Owneres manual says only 10W-30 synthetic, and strongly recommends Mobil1.

No oil filter because they are splash lube only. No oil pump, so no way to get the oil through a filter. I usually only see pressure lube and oil filters on larger (~10hp and up) for commercial/industrial use.
