Compressor on second floor?

As my house and garage build are moving along, I am starting to think about placement of things. I do not have the compressor yet - but am thinking along the 80 gallon size. My detached will have a second floor on it and would like to be able to put the compressor up there for noise abatement downstairs. The second floor will be storage and will be unheated, uncooled and uninsulated for now. As far as temperatures and vibration go, what are your thoughts on this placement? I will have an abundance of space up there to use and thought it would be pretty convenient but was unsure about the temps and vibration above. Thoughts?

My biggest challenge would be getting it up the stairs to the second floor.

My son has his in the garage attic.
It sits on 2x4 bridging the joists.
This is in far northen IL.
Just normal attic style venting with soffit and mushroom vents.

I have basically exactly what you are describing, and no troubles for the past 5 or so years. I had to take the compressor apart and take it up in 3 pieces...motor, head, then tank.

Same here. 80 gallon, 7.5HP. Had to lift it in 3 pieces, but I had a hoist to help.

I have nothing to add and am just in for information. My compressor sits on the main floor of my garage and I'm thinking of elevating it to the ceiling just to gain the floor/storage space below it. Even for that "short vertical trip" I figured I'll have to dismantle it (no big deal).

I've had my little 5 gallon compressor in my garage for 5 years now. I live in central Illinois and it gets freezing in my attached garage. Never had any issues with it. You should be fine, be aware of condensation in the tank but everyone knows about draining the tank anyway. Don't they?

Mine is mounted on a shelf over my side entry door. A pipe with a ball valve runs down so I can empty it. Other than checking the oil, I don't go near it much. It is mounted on rubber insulators to ease the vibration.

As for getting it up there, my son has some muscle!

I have my compressor in the garage attic/crawl space also. Just moved it a month ago, took it up in pieces. I used two lay down air tanks, from cheap/free oilless craigslist compressors. There just wasn't room for a stand up tank. Its great having the floor space back, and it cuts the noise way down.

Just make sure there is some fresh cool air feeding the compressor if not the efficiency will go down as will the pumps/motors life.

Can you guys with them in attic post some pictures of how you have them? I have a truss roof so I guess its out for me.

I put the compressor/tank combo on some rubber car exhaust hangers, very little vibration remains now if any. You can get them at auto parts stores for a couple of bucks each. There are different styles but the more rubber you can get between the tank and the floor the better.
