Compressor opinions

I've been looking for awhile for a compressor to use at home for the past few months. This morning when surfing I found a Speedaire 30gal 2hp that looks to be in real good condition. I'm hoping it pans out and I can bring it home this afternoon. It's rated at 5.5 @90psi. My only downfall with it is it isn't portable or upright. What do you think? Good buy or no?

how much $$$?

it would be fine for basic stuff [ratchets/impacts/chisels] but i wouldnt want to grind, cut, or sand with it. Between the small tank and the low CFM its going to turn on instantly when you use high output tools like that.

$175 is the price. I wouldn't run anymore than your basic air tools on it. I really don't plan on any grinding or something that requires a lot of air.

for that kind of money I would consider an Ingersoll Rand SL3 from Northern Tool. Save you $300 and you get 10 cfm at 90psi

I wouldn't hesitate for $175. That's a Campbell Hausfeld cast-iron pump on the one in your link, which is a pretty solid performer. If it will do what you need to do and it's in good condition it's a good deal.

So you want opinions? Be careful what you ask for.
Well I think almost any small compressor that can build up to 120 psi with a 20 gal. tank will be able to air up tires and run mechanic type tools, especially if you don’t mind waiting for it to build pressure. Speedaire is a good company, and I do think a small compressor should be portable.
If you want a compressor to power future blasting, grinding, sanding ect... operations, you will need a larger compressor that will supply more like 10cfm @ 150psi. Something like a 5hp, 2-stage and 40gal.+ tank. Remember, the volume and psi of air is what your after. The hp, tank sizes ect… doesn’t mater if it is not putting out the air that you need. Just my opinion.

I remember a guy on here at a Speedaire dryer (made in France) that was very impressive. Don't know if it was the same company, but it was quality. For the money, I don't know that this will be super fab quality, but what do I know :dunno:
