How common is it for people to leave their vertical compressors bolted to the shipping pallet for the long term?

Sorry choice 3 should be "horizontal".

Mine are not on the shipping pallet but on wood so I can get a pallet jack under them if I want to move it.

I planned on putting my on vibration dampners but never got around to it. I am glad I never did get around to taking it off the pallet it was easy to move with a dolly when I moved. Now that I have a shop for it I plan on putting it on vibration dampners. Most likely it will stay on the pallet though.

Made a new heavier pallet for mine that allows it to be moved with a two wheel hand truck.

Do the damper really make a difference?

I don't know, I put them on when I bought the compressor, and had never seriously considered any other option. I figured if I bolted it, or my grinders down, onto the concrete floor, I would mess up on the measurement for the bolt spacing, and wind up with a big mess.

I wish I had my work tables bolted down, however.

I have a 5 hp vertical compressor with an 80 gal. tank that moved any time it ran. I tried setting it on 1/2" thick rubber belting which helped but I finally had to bolt it down.

Mine is on rubber vibration dampners.

Mine too. The pallet wouldn't fit through the doorway to the compressor room, but I would have taken it off anyways..

It was quieter with the dampeners, and after putting them on there was no reason to bolt it to the floor because the dampeners won't let it move on the floor...

Whenever you drill to bolt things to the floor, drill right through the holes and use cinch anchors, (concrete expansion anchor) which will drive right through those holes without moving the unit. No misalignment that way.
