Hello

I picked up a DeVilBiss 80 gallon 2-stage air compressor for a decent deal on craigslist and I read on here that people recommend replacing the pressure switch and in-tank check valve. Looking up parts on amazon, ebay, and general stores, there is about a 10-30 dollar price difference. Are there any differences or can I just get any cheapo ones or should I get a name brand product?

Part Number: A19715 Name: VALVE CHECK 1/2NPT X

Part Number: TIA-4200 Name:VALVE SAFETY 200psi .25

thanks

I would use quality parts. If the check valve fails then your compressor sees more wear and you use more electricity due to the tank bleeding down. If the pressure switch contacts fail then you have the risk of the pump continuing to run and generate an unsafe pressure in the tank. Also remember to test/replace the safety valve.

Having said that, I use non-OEM parts on mine, because that's what I could afford when I had to replace them. As long as your safety valve is good you should be fine. A properly rated pressure switch rarely fails in the closed position, that usually only happens when an undersized switch is used and too much currant is flowing across the contacts causing them to arc and fuse together.

You can test the tank inlet check valve by pressuring up the tank to 10psi, then disconnect the outlet line at the compressor pump. You will hear a bad leak, if you don't then tape a small bag around the line opening, it will inflate if there is a small leak.

Thanks, I just replaced the unloaded valve but will need to double check for leaks. I'll try soap and water first but I should try the bag method because its what you recommended and there is a reason for recommending that over soap and water. I do have another thread I started trying to figure out what that piece is and it looks like another valve. thanks again.
