Hey guys, I am in teh process of setting up a new Quincy 65 gallon compressor. I have one lingering question. Coming out of the compressor is a 1/2" shut off valve. I am planning to run hydraulic hose from that into my filter/regulator....my question is this...how do I tighten the flexible hose to both the shutoff at the compressor and the filter without twisting the hose? the filter/regulator are plumbed together with copper tubing and I have fixed them to the wall...all of the hydraulic hose I can find has fixed NPT threads at ecah end...I imagine it will take 4-5 complete rotations to tighten fully...how does one account for that twist in the line??

Yes, union as stated is the answer. I would suggest one rated at 250 psi or 300. Not the imports from box stores which are rated at 125.

You'll need a swivel fitting on at least one end so it is serviceable. Like a JIC swivel. If you know your NPT sizes, just go to your local air/hydraulic shop, its a 5 min job for them to make you one up and supply the fitting.

Alternatively you could use a Teflon lined stainless hose from a semi truck compressor output with it's matching fitting. You could make friends with the counterman.

The air/hyd shop will be cheaper.

One option is a pipe union and one pipe ****** at the filter regulator. I am not sure of the regulator NPT so I do not know if you will need a pipe bushing somewhere. Or, As jeepinherdeep suggested, bring your hose to a hydraulic shop and they will sell you the proper male and female fittings you need. (You need both and they should be matched to each other.)

Get the right hydraulic hose. One or both ends that are not fixed.

As usual I overthought this...just bought a whip from Coilhose Pneumatics that has a swivel at one end...$15 on Amazon.
