Depends on the torque specs of your lug nuts and the impact wrench you're using. If you don't have an air compressor and are only planning on using it for an impact wrench, I suggest getting an electric cordless impact wrench instead, as it will use less space and require no maintenance compared to a compressor and air impact.

If you're planning on using the compressor for other stuff, then I suggest at least 4.5cfm at 90psi, more if you want to do sand blasting or grinding continuously.

edit; if you're wanting to use a cheap but powerful air impact like the HF Earthquake 1/2" gun, you want closer to 6CFM output at 90psi. Cheapest compressor you can get that will push that, new, is at least $350.

Most tools are rated and work well at 90psi, IF you have the flow to maintain it. Even the cheapest bottom of the barrel compressors will make 90psi, but don't have the guts to back it up.

I have the 21 gallon 2.5hp compressor from HF and it will run most tools intermittently. They're around 150 bucks with a coupon. It makes 4.8cfm at 90psi I think.

Air tank size is the key
you can have a smaller compressor and it will take longer to fill the tank
the compressor doesnt care what the demand of the tool is,its job is to fill the tank.

I completely agree with General Geoff, but you don't need huge cfm numbers for impact guns for lug nuts unless you run around loosening lug nuts like nascar. My 5 cfm is more then adequate for any tool that isn't constantly requiring air, like a sander or grinder. You want atleast 90psi to the tool, most compressors will do that.
