Compressor Question

I just finished hooking up my compressor. Its a Porter Cable 175 PSI, 2-Stage, 80 Gallon unit. While testing it out I noticed that the gasket between the grey tube and the head is leaking slightly but only while the compressor is running and briefly just after it shuts off (about 1 sec). There is also a high pitch whistling noise coming from the compressor while its running, would that be caused by the leaky gasket? Am I risking life and limb by running it with that sucker leaking?

By the way, what is that little brass fitting on the tube in the last two pictures? A secondary safety valve maybe?

Could it be a the compressor valve? Can you screw it in and out if so, you need to tighten it.

Sorry for the stupid question, but where is the compressor valve?

can you remove the header and use gasket maker and reinstall?

That's what I was planning on doing, I'm just not sure what gasket material to use. Any suggestions?

if you can't find a replacement gasket, you can use this stuff.

Its used in high temp applications and should do fine. I use it on exhaust flanges. Just apply an even coat and install the parts wet. let it set up for a day to cure before turning the compressor on.

Thanks, I'll give that a try if I cant find the replacement gasket.
