here is what I got off the site. This is for the red floor model blast cabiinet.

Requires a 5 HP compressor with minimum 12 CFM at 40-80 PSI

Air consumption: 9.5 CFM at 90 PSI
Maximum working pressure: 125 PSI

Here's my question: What style of compressors am I most likely going to run across used? If I ever get around to getting this, the cabinet will definitely go outside, but I have limited space and doorways to get to my outer area, so the compressor may have to find a spot in the already cramped garage...

Stand-up with no wheels, stand up w/wheels, horizontal w/no wheels, etc etc?

In my experience most "real" 5hp compressors (motor at 20+ amps) will pump somewhere near 15cfm @ 90 psi or better. Any compressor pumping at 11/12 CFM @ 90 psi will have a motor rated at 15/16 amps @ 220/240v which is more like a 3/3.5 hp motor.

HF has two compressors that would do the job for you at close to what a used compressor would cost. One puts out 15+ cfm @ 90 psi and one puts our 12+ cfm @ 90 psi. Most of the hobby type compressors I see for sale used are down below 10 cfm @ 90.

Also when you look at used compressors on CL, don't be dismayed at what might look old and unwanted. If it's an American brand (Quincy, Champion, Saylor Beall, etc..) and it's an older one they are built like tanks. It might need a little rebuild with some cleaning, rings, and gaskets... But they are waaay better than the chunk of chinese you buy at HD/Lowes.

You can also find the more residential 60 gallon compressors barely used too. A lot of people buy them with good intentions but never use it as much as they thought and now they just want it out of their garage. Their loss is your gain... ;)
