Compressor recommendations

Hi everyone just wondering if I could get some input on a compressor upgrade for my garage.I have a 60 gal 3hp Ingersoll rand that only put out 11.3 cfm now that just want cut it when you try to run a DA or Air File.I think if I had a 18 to 20 cfm compressor I would be OK but I'm not sure.Please chime In with what everybody has.Also which brands are better.

It depends so much on your needs. I love my 5hp 18.5cfm compressor. It never comes up short on air.

Mine keeps up with any single job I can put to it, but it won't keep up with 3 DA sanders at the same time like my Brother's 10hp 33cfm compressor does.

I have the IR 5HP version of yours. It puts out 18.1 CFM at 90PSI. I bought it a few months ago and have run my bead blast cabinet multiple times and it keeps up just fine.

It was around $850 at tractor supply. You can spent a lot more and get a Quincy if you want, but $850 was in my price range, and it works fine for me.

As shown above, you need at least 18.5 at 90psi to run air files, grinders and the sand blaster. Don't go by HP, go by cfm.

Also, even though these questions come up so often, few times do people mention the importance of maintaining air volume through to the tool, especially a sand/bead blaster. When piping your project, make sure not to put to many bends, fittings and ***** that choke down the volume. Start with 3/4 inch (min) pipe and keep it at that until you get to your hose.

I have a 2 cyl single stage Eaton that is about 20 CFM which will run a DA sander no problem. As for brands I would check out Eaton, Quincy, Champion, Rol-Air, Saylor-Beal (sp?)

Saylor Beall 735-80. They are made in USA and have been for about 100 years. The head even has made in USA cast into it. I’ve had mine a little over 5 years.

The specs are as follows:
