Hi All,

I have a craftsman 8hp 60gallon compressor that I just pulled out of storage. I need a good regulator and water filter setup. I am looking for a a decent one that will be used for general garage duties (tools, etc..maybe painting, unsure).

Anyone have a good brand/setup they can recommend? The cheap one I have aint cutting it.

Thanks in advance!

It’s got more to do with the the air lines than filtration. Metal lines to cool and condense water vapor generated in the tank and pushed along the lines . I have only 2 drops and actually use just one mainly . Build to suit your needs.

Also if you can well for have plumbing supplies kicking around by google FRANZINATOR. You can cobble one of these together and that will eliminate nearly all the water.

To start you need a professional grade cooler. The correct size for an 8hp unit would be the Hayden db1290, copper tub not aluminum. With Craftsman a 8hp is likely a 5 or 6 true horsepower. If the rating is hyped a db1260 is adequate for a 5-6 hp.....

FRANZINATOR....

Issue with one of these units is the fact the cooling of the air to drop out moisture uses a higher to lower pressure to cool the air , like the principle of air conditioning, which consumes power; anyone who states this unit does not cost anything to run, should also state air conditioning is free. The result is you get less high pressure volume output, that is the cost and it is not minimal.
On the other hand a Hayden db1290 or 1260 will not have as low a moisture content air output, but it will remove approximately 70% of the moisture in the air for a much higher volume of air using almost no power in the process.

I have been pretty happy with the Harbor Freight regulator and water filter. The filter is set up so that it bleeds as the pressure builds up, and again after the pressure drops. I am sure there are wicked awesome setups, but this works well for my low budget DIY shop. I use impact driver, air ratchet, die grinder, Fluid Film sprayer, and spray gun. No issues with my tools or the sprayers. I am not, however, spraying vehicles or trying for show quality finishes. That might make a difference?
