Compressor Regulator/Filter?

First off....while I like a lot of the HF stuff....their filter/regulator is a POS. First one had a leak....exchanged it....new one developed a leak...and while I was trying to tighten the filter part...it blew off in my hand....I'm lucky I was not hurt (of course I should not have been doing that under pressure)

So now I'm looking for a new setup....but I'm thinking I don't want a combo unit....

My compressor is in a 'shed' behind my garage. I have a line that goes through a wall and I 'had' a setup on the wall. Then line then goes back into the wall, through the ceiling/second story floor to a few drop points and then to the front of the garage where my hose reel is.

It's kind of a PIA to have to walk to the back of the garage to adjust the regulator depending on what I'm doing. So I'm thinking of having just the filter at the back wall and the regulator up near my hose reel. If I do any painting or I'm using my nailers and need to have reduced pressure....it's going to be on the end of the hose.....I'm even thinking of just having a quick connect regulator....90% of what I do needs no regulation....sand blasting...airing up tires...etc....

Thoughts? And suggestions for a filter/dryer? Anything but HF.

When I installed my system about ten years ago, I wanted something that was maintenance friendly and yet a quality piece that wouldn't need it. I had used the Wilkerson compatibles from McMaster Carr at a previous employer over twenty years ago, and had good luck with those, so I decided on them again. These are modular so if there are any issues of failure, the clamping devices are removed from between the modules, and then slide it out, slide replacement back in, no unthreading of the piping as that's in an end block. So far I haven't touched them in 10 years other than to adjust air pressure. The modulars are toward the bottom of this page..

I haven't had trouble with any of the popular brands of filter - Norgren, Wilkerson, Watts, etc.

You are right on in your thinking. Personally, I'd purchase COILHOSE filter and T-Handle regulator. They may not be the cheapest, but you have already traveled that road.

There is your answer. Have a point of use regulator, or 2 or 3, and use it when needed If you have a two stage compressor then you could have one at the head of the system and regulate it down to 120 or so if you feel the need.

Thanks for all the input guys.....

I do have a regulator at the tank...I think I have it around 130.

Right now I'm looking at flow rates...quite a bit of difference between filter/dryers.

BTW...I don't use an oiler...I oil my stuff the old fashioned way....I squeeze in a couple of drops before use...during use....and a couple more when I'm done.
