Compressor repair pressure switch.

I have a compressor that I have to replace the pressure switch on and I don't trust the old ones wiring (guy tried to bypass when it broke). It's only a 1hp on a 20 gallon tank, but it's headed to my brothers house for tires.

As I have to replace the power cord and pressure switch, does the pressure switch interupt the neutral as well as the hot?

somebody bypassed the pressure switch?????? damn, that's not a compressor anymore, it's a time bomb!

My compressor is 220, so the pressure switch interrupts both legs. i don't know what 110v compressor switches do. it's not really necessary to interrupt the neutral, but it's not a bad idea.

My 220V compressor has a mag starter and the pressure switch only interrupts one leg. That is all that is necessary to shut it off...

If it is 110V, you only need to interrupt the hot - like any other switch. Side note, you can interrupt the neutral instead of the hot and it will still turn the item off. But then you still have hot going to the appliance, (light, whatever) and if you inadvertantly touch ground you can get zapped. Always interrupt the hot for that reason.
