Compressor restoration

So I got this old compressor for free a couple years ago and haven't had a chance to do anything with it since, but I recently had a chance to tear it down.

When I got it I turned it on, so I know it runs fine. The motor didn't have any noise that I recall, the pump seems to be practically brand-new, and the tank scares the **** out of me. When I did let it run I immediately drained it after and there's still a huge rust-stain on my driveway from it. PO probably never drained it, so I plan on getting the tank tested, cleaning up the motor, and hopefully just adding some paint and putting it back together! I don't need it to be mobile either, so the wheels and tow-bar are coming off, I'm sure I'll find another use for them soon. As with everything I do, this will take a long time so don't hold your breath for updates.

Can't wait to have this back together. Anyone know where to look to get the tank pressure-tested properly??

There have been numerous threads on testing air tanks. Do a search for hydrostatic testing air tanks and you joule come up with omething.

This machine needs repaint or servicing again.Fill the gas on compressor machine.Replace tow bar before attached it.

What you ia a old Emglo made in Johnstown, pa.The model is "k". and parts are still available. The company changed names to Jenny a couple years ago. Weak spot is the valves, provided unit was not run w/o oil. Tank can be tested with a water pump to a min. of 300 psi. Water not air!

Thanks, JHAUK, I thought it was an Emglo. I'll watch for the valves, but the pump seems to work perfectly right now.

I did get the motor apart today. This is my first time working on an electric motor, so we'll see how it goes. Please feel free to correct my improper lingo. The case was completely encrusted with old grease and dirt, so it'll be getting cleaned and re-painted. It spun really nicely, so I don't think I'll have to replace the bearings, but we'll see. I do want to get the rotor (I think it's called) on a lathe so I can clean it up a little, but haven't had a chance to figure out how it comes out of the side cover it's still in. I might try to get the stator (I think, again) on a lathe also to bore off a few thou. Let me know if there's a better way to do this, or if I'm on the right path.

I think this part is the starter? I'll be trying to clean that up as well, and make sure it moves freely.

And here's where the armature shaft is held in the side-cover. I'll have to look tomorrow for how to get it out, didn't have a chance today.

The rotor is out of the side-cover, and the plates are off and cleaned up a tiny bit just with some hand-soap and warm water. Anyone know how to get the stator out of the shell though?

It's a 1/4hp that spins at 1725RPM, and it was made in St. Louis. Model J3677
