When my shop was built, I told the builder I wanted a vent in the compressor room. I was thinking some sort of gable louver, he was thinking "Get through this as quickly as possible" He used vinyl soffit panels and very little ventilation was provided through the small holes in the panels.

So I decided to do something about the lack of venting. I constructed a louvered panel out of 1X4's that replaced the soffit panels, and added a thermostatically controlled gable vent fan, the fan pulls over 1500 CFM.

I leave the door to the compressor room open. Sort of low tech, but it works.

Doesn't leaving the door open defeat the purpose of having a compressor room?
Leaving the door open, sure can make the rest of the garage noisy when the compressor is running!
Sorry, just thinking out loud....I do like the way you upgraded the exhaust, much better than before!
You can also add a relay to the fan so it the compressor is in auto mode, the fan will run when the motor gets power..and still have the override on switch to the fan for exhausting air whenever your occupying the area.
Have you ever thought about adding insulation to the walls for noise suppression?
You could add a grill with baffle to the bottom of the door, allowing you to close the door...just some thoughts.
My compressor is underneath the work bench and is very noisy...I gotta figure out a good way to suppressing the noise....your thread has me thinking!!!!!

Insulation is next on my list of major things to do. It gets real hot here in the summer. I measured the temp at the rafters using a laser thermometer and it was 142º.
The compressor noise isn't too bad, even with the door open. I guess that is because the compressor is sort of isolated away from the main shop. I loke that idea of a grille on the door.
