Compressor sale: HD, Lowes, Sears?

Do HD, Lowes or Sears ever have a decent sale on compressors? Usually they are $20 off regular price or something, not really worth waiting. I am just curious if I should just buck up and not wait for a sale. Looking for a 60gal upright, oil-lubed, 220v model for <$500. I would buy online but the shipping prices usually get out of hand unless you can find free shipping. Anyone find a good deal on a compressor lately?

Haven't been in the market for a compressor lately, but I do know that with a "Craftmans Club" card you can save another 10% off prices (even sale prices) when they hold a Craftsman club event (which is usually 4 times or so a year). Matter of fact, I believe I recieved a mailer this week about Sears starting a sale this weekend.

Uh, the Craftsman 10% off everything during club saver days died long ago. You only get the sale on items listed in the flyer, although, compressors are frequently in there.

I was in Lowe's yesterday and their 60 gallon compressors were on clearance. The bigger model was $500 and the other model was like $400. Check them out.

Well, I am looking at their upright 60gal 220v models, which hopefully are made by CH. It is not a high end IR, but $500 is all I have in the budget right now.

Anyone have experience with Puma compressors at HF?

Decent? Probably good enough for occasional use...and for $500 I don't think I'd complain. The Lowe's model seems to be decent. 3 year warranty on the cast iron pump. Someone on here said they are made by American IMC:

I swear this site is going to bankrupt me, but I love it. I had to cap myself at $500 for the compressor because I still am in the market for a rollaway tool box and I need both right now.

I am almost finished remodeling my garage, so now I am getting excited to buy some stuff to go in it!

I think that for $500 you should get a good machine I only paied that for my quincy. My buddy last year picked up a 5hp IR cast iron 2 stage from another guy that was still attached to the pallet and like new for $500. They are out there for a good price if you look.

FWIW, I got the latest Craftsman Days catalog in the mail yesterday (5/3/06) and they have 10-20% off on all compressors and air tools. They are selling a 60 gallon, 2 cylinder, oil lube, vertical for $449.99.

Did you buy your quincy used? Maybe I just need to be a bit more patient for a deal on something better.

Yes it was used, and I'm sure it's more machine than your looking to buy but, there are smaller ones out there too. The stuff is out there you just need to look. I would take any used quality US made compressor ( Quincy, GD, IR, Curtis, Kellogg, Speed air etc...) over any of the $500 big box store models.

Keep looking unless you need one ASAP you can find one.

lowes compressors are only assembled in USA... as I recall. Dont let the american flag sticker fool you, read it close. (Hell I now know my eaton isnt entirely american made) but just to let you know.

Eatons can only be ordered from thier site.... eatoncompressor.com

Scott,
I ordered it direct from Eaton Compressors......they sell on ebay as well but can order at same prices direct from them. I also ordered one of their air hose reels to mount off my lift that I picked up not long ago so we'll see how well it holds up, they claim they use theirs all day long everyday in their shop and never a problem. The compressor came today, it's a beautiful thing. I'll be glad to get the shop wired so I can fire it up........ Keith

Alright, I have a couple more weekends of mudding and painting, so I will keep looking until I buy one. I have a new 220v 30amp outlet begging for use!

Hey,

Whats up? Do you have a Harbor Freight close by? They sell the same compressor as the Kobalt 60gal upright at Lowes for $397 regular price. I know the website says it's $499, but the store and online really have no communication other than if you bring in an ad with a better price they'll give it to you. The IN STORE price is like $397....I just got one not too long ago. I did a lot or researching to find out where these Kobalts/US General/Belair all come from and they are all ABAC/American IMC. check out the site http://www.abacamerican.com/ I've used mine a bit over the last 6 mos and it hasn't missed a beat. Yeah, if you use a DA sander for 20 mins straight, it'll have to catch up, but it's great overall. If I had infinite money to spend, or even like $1300 on a compressor, yeah, I would have gotten a 2-stage IR/Quincy/Eaton but that wasn't in the cards for me. So, I've been really happy with this one thus far. Good luck..have any questions don't hesitate to ask. Compressors are fun....zooook...zoooook!!
